Chereads / The Rise of the White Lotus / Chapter 3 - Resurrection

Chapter 3 - Resurrection

"It's funny how I unhesitantly ended my life and you would just show up out of nowhere and tell me you would resurrect me just like that, really? Shouldn't you at least give the opportunity to the people who died with natural diseases and by accident?" Lexi scoffed, trying to rationalize things.

Granted that Lexi slightly believed what the cute white dumpling was stating, yet, she still couldn't help but wonder why would the system chose a vicious individual just like her, and not the people who deserve it more.

"Also --" Just as Lexi was about to burst her next batch of opinions, alas, stopped midway upon sensing something. Ever since she came to the space of nothingness or what the talking bun referred to as 'checkpoint of the afterlife', she had been stuck to her position. But now, she felt that her soul was slowly being pulled from the ground.

"Churu? Hey, Churu!" Lexi panicked as she called out the little dumpling's name.

Unfortunately, Churu suddenly vanished into the dark space which engulfed Lexi with dread. Gradually, the spot she was standing strongly pulled her -- as if taking her to the bottomless pit of hell.

"No!! Please! Ahh!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. All Lexi knew was that she was scared -- terrified to be more exact.

At that moment, an emotion that was hidden at the bottom of her heart, resurfaced -- the very thing she didn't want to admit; regret.

She was filled with a hundred, or even thousands of regrets. Lexi's conscious mind eventually shut down along with her free-falling 'body'.

------

"Oh my god!!!" A noble-looking middle-aged woman screamed for the last time before she fainted while witnessing her precious daughter being rescued.

3 minutes ago, probably due to her motherly instinct, Lillian Yang sensed something was amiss. Hence, she went to check her daughter Lexi Yang to see if she was alright just like what her daughter claimed.

However, after several knocks on her daughter's room, only silence from the inside answered her. She then decided to lean her ear on the door as her hand tried to open the door, but to no avail, it was locked.

She concentrated her focus to hear what's going on inside her daughter's room and in the next second, her heart throbbed loudly for some reason.

She heard an audible 'thud' noise which snapped her patience and sent alarm signals inside Mother Yang's head. She knew her daughter well. Although she must admit that she raised Lexi with all her love, alas, Lexi was also a strong-willed person.

Thus, Mother Yang knew that whatever crisis their family was going through right now, she'd stay strong -- the Yang family will stay strong.

However, the moment Mother Yang along with their servants intruded Lexi's room, the scene before her gave Mother Yang the shock of her life.

"Ahhhhh!!!" Mother Yang screamed upon seeing her daughter.

"Young miss!!!"

There, her precious daughter was hanging lifelessly with a noose around her neck and her tongue almost out. Lexi's body still flinched, struggling, as if the very last vitality her body had was slowly fading away.

Automatically, the few servants who intruded into Lexi's room instantly rushed to her hanging figure and without wasting a second, they helped her down with caution.

Since Mother Yang kept on screaming, Father Yang soon came into sight. Curious about the sudden commotion, Father Yang rushed to his daughter's room. The moment he saw the scene inside, his complexion paled.

His wife fainted and their daughter being held down with a cut noose around her neck. It was mind-boggling and disturbing!

Without further ado, he rushed towards Lexi and commanded through his gritted teeth, "Summon Dr. Shen this instant!"

After he said his orders, Father Yang tried to wake Lexi by mildly shaking her shoulder. "Lexi, baby! Can you hear daddy?" A touch of desperation and helplessness could be traced through Father Yang's voice. His already exhausted appearance turned grimmer receiving no response from his daughter.

Father Yang checked her almost non-beating pulse -- hoping for a miracle to happen.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

"Haaaaa" Lexi suddenly gasped for air and let out a series of coughs. Her hand subconsciously touched her neck and coughed even more.

Father Yang instantly inclined Lexi's upper body and gently tapped her back so that she could gasp for more air. He didn't know what to do but his body was moving by instinct.

"Thank God!" He murmured in relief along with Lexi's unending coughs. Lexi could barely see a faint light as she gasped for more air before everything went black, again.

-----

"Chu~? Chuchuruu~?" Lexi's brows twitched the moment her mind regained consciousness. Slowly opening her eyes, Lexi's eyes crossed due to the little distance between her and Churu.

Currently, the cute dumpling was inspecting her facial features thoroughly, as if she was examining even her pores.

Lexi slowly closed her eyes again as she inhaled and exhaled heavily, she mumbled with a hoarse voice. "If I were you, I'd keep your distance or else, I'll eat you… alive."

"Chu?!" Churu immediately flew to the corner of the room with disgust plastered across her cute little face. Just as Lexi opened her eyes again, and shifted her gaze on the side, she instantly froze seeing her mother with a shocked expression.

'Churu!!!!' Lexi shouted inwardly.

"Chichichi~!" Churu giggled. It resonated on Lexi's mind which made her veins almost popped due to anger.
