His smile froze. Just when he looked like he was about to express his grievance, she burst into laughter. "I was just kidding!"
He didn't know whether to smile or remain disheartened. "What were you kidding about? Being in love with me or not having said anything about it?"
She laughed even harder, intrigued by his silly expression. If she said she didn't like him, why did he look like he would drop down and faint? To stop him from indulging in too much overthinking, she took his hand. "I wasn't joking about being… kind of… with you."
He jumped in excitement. "Yay!"
In the next moment, he looked at her seriously. "Would you die if you said you love me?"
"Won't I?" The mere thought of it was making her feel uncomfortable.
It was his turn to laugh. When they had eaten to their fill, he settled the bill and held his hand out to her.
