Leo tried to call Shera again and was surprised when the call actually connected. "You finally decided to turn on your phone."
"I had to make an important call and I wasn't going to postpone that simply because I'm ignoring you." She scoffed.
He laughed at her sorry excuse. "What important call would anyone make at midnight?"
"Can't I call my boyfriend at midnight if he is still awake?" She shrugged, making him smile. So the important call was to him. Just when he was about to ask why she was still awake, she beat him to it. "You sound a little worried. Did something happen?"
He frowned and was puzzled. Just how was she able to detect his feelings even through the phone? He was sure that he didn't sound that obvious.
Faced with her question, he couldn't bring himself to lie, so he explained, "Amanda managed to escape."
"I knew she wasn't that simple." Shera didn't sound too surprised. "Did she cause you trouble?"
