Chapter 1 - Third Generation Army Officer

Commander's Office, Base of the Rayvix Special Forces

"Well, I have to say that you and your team did a great job in your mission. The higher-ups are also extremely satisfied with your performance." Major General Lucian Arlyn said to the young woman who was sitting next to him. His eyes carefully examined the reaction on the woman's face.

Dressed in a dark green combat dress and black military leather boots, a dark green beret cap which was perfectly tilted to the right, with a logo of the Silveren Army Special Forces that was proudly placed on the left side of the cap just above the left eye; she was the perfect embodiment of a smartly dressed soldier.

The badges on both of her shoulders were both occupied by three five-pointed stars which were gold in color indicating that this young woman was a Captain. There was a name tape on the place of her right chest just above her pocket, that reads 'Yelena Arista'.

Captain Yelena frowned. "Respected Sir, did you summon me here just to tell me that? I already heard those words from you more than five times yesterday." She gave the man a suspicious look.

"Is that so?" Major General Lucian smiled awkwardly.

Though the words of Yelena could be mistaken for sarcasm, he was not offended. Yelena's father was his best friend and he knew this rude and arrogant young woman from the moment she was born. Though she was his subordinate and one of the Captains which he commanded, he admire and respect her for her devotion to her job and the country. Though he had served in the army for three decades; she was the finest female Military Officer he had ever known.

"Yes. I was about to leave the base to enjoy my long-awaited vacation when your messenger came to me." Yelena frankly said.

After many months of endless missions, she finally had two weeks' leave. But now she was summoned by the Commander of the Rayvix Special Forces, an elite division where she was currently working; her instincts and past experience told her that it will be no good thing.

"Fine. I won't beat around the bush. You're so hard to fool." Major General Lucian chuckled. "I'm afraid we need to cut down your leave to a week, rather than two." He finally said to her. His voice and expression were the proof that he was serious.

Captain Yelena was not amazed by the words of her superior. In fact, this was not the first time. Plus, to be informed about this at the last minute; she understood that there must be some important mission.

"Is it a new mission?" Yelena's tone was much more respectful than before. Though she loved to say things that made him uncomfortable, she respected the man beside him as a superior, and as a fellow soldier.

"Yes. It is not dangerous, but an important one. I need a skilled team for it. So, I want your team to carry out this mission. To be honest, it will be much more of a responsibility." Major General Lucian explained.

"Why my team? There are many other teams in our division. Currently, my team is the busiest among all." Captain Yelena deadpanned. If it was an order, she would instantly accept the mission. But she wanted to know why it has to be her team, while they didn't even get a chance to rest.

"Why your team? Everyone knows. Your team is the best. From you, the Captain to the lowest-ranked Private; you're all the best in your respective fields." Major General Lucian mused. Did she really not know the answer? Maybe missions after missions turned her dumb!

"So, have a good rest for a week and report in for the mission as soon as you return. When you come back, I'll let you know what the mission is." He added in a commanding voice.

"Yes, sir. I'll comply with your order." Captain Yelena replied firmly.

"There is no doubt that there is a blood of an Arista in your veins." Major General Lucian said with a proud smile. But his smile faded away the very moment he saw Yelena's reaction.

Yelena was more than displeased with his words. She tried her best to hide her displeasure. After all, he was her supervisor.

Yelena was a third-generation Army Officer; with a grandfather who holds the rank of General and a father who was a Major General, the Arista family was one of the most reputable families in the country of Silveren. Everyone in the military knew about this and it always lead to some groundless and fake rumors.

Some say that all her current status and major achievements were all because of her backing. But the truth was that Yelena graduated from the National Military Academy at the top of her class and all her success was achieved through hard work and determination. She needs no help from her family. Yelena hates it when someone in the army mentioned her family.

Now that two years had passed since she joined the army, she proved with her own abilities that the rumors surrounding her were all false. She had earned the trust and respect of the very soldiers who used to doubt her abilities.

"I think you had told me all the important stuff. If that's the case, I'll excuse myself." Yelena rose from her seat after a minute of silence. She saluted the man to show her respect, then turned her back on him and approached the door.

When her hands reached for the doorknob, she suddenly paused. She turned around and her eyes landed on the middle-aged man who seemed to be taken aback by her actions. She fainted a smile and called his name. "Uncle Lucian."

The man looked at her, his eyes widened with disbelief. It had been years since she last called him 'Uncle'. His eyes were tender and soft as if he was a father who finally met his long-lost daughter.

"As you know, Uncle Lucian; I may be a good soldier but not a good daughter." The faint smile on her face slowly faded away. "Take care." She mumbled and hurriedly left the room, leaving Major General Lucian behind with his bewildered mind.

Yelena hurried out of the Commander's office and went straight to hers to pack up her things. The sun had already set and she still needs to visit her parents' house before finally resting at her own home. Her one-week leave will officially start the next day and she needs to board a plane early in the morning; so she had no time to spare.

She stormed out of her office without even changing her uniform. Soldiers who crossed paths with her stood at their place in attention and saluted her, but the reputable Captain didn't even glance at the soldiers as she was in such a hurry. She had already promised her grandfather that she would have dinner with him. As a veteran soldier who spend more than five decades of his life under discipline; Mr. Logan Arista, the General of the Silveren Army was more than punctual.

Yelena drove her red Wrangler Rubicon, a limited edition jeep car that she bought months ago. It was the same vehicle that made her mother really furious at her.

Her mother claimed that the vehicle was not ladylike, but Yelena completely ignored her. In fact, the vehicle really suits her. Whenever she drive the luxurious jeep in her military uniform, she looked like a femme fatale, who can make every man swoon with a single smile.

Besides, she was naturally beautiful even without make-up. She rarely dressed up femininely due to her job; but whatever she wears, she nailed them perfectly. Maybe that's the reason why she captured the hearts of many soldiers and Military officers.....
