She just turned around and gave him an intense stare. Looking at how his daughter was behaving, he cursed at himself in his mind.
"I am sorry JeJe! It is daddy's fault! Daddy is wrong! Please forgive me, dear!" Dexter begged and was still hoping that his wife would come to his help any moment.
But all he saw was his wife and his father-in-law munching on some snacks, the maid got brought. He even felt like they both were enjoying the show from the sides.
"Alright fine! I did put out a notice that whoever is capable of kidnapping my daughter would be allowed to marry her and became my successor," Dexter dropped the bomb and instantly knelt down on the floor while sweating.
Everyone looked at him in awe and even forgot to respond. After waiting for almost a whole day, he did not receive any response from anyone around him. So without lifting his head, he continued to say,
"I put that notice five years ago and I immediately removed it the next day as I did not want my daughter to leave my side so soon. I did not expect that Aiden would still hang on to that and would come to fight it out with me after so many years. You do not need to worry my dear, since he did not succeed, I would not accept him as my son-in-law. Isn't that right father-in-law?"
When Phil noticed that the ball moved into his court, he started sweating as he was also involved at that time. As both of them were partners in crime for this incident, the snacks that he put into his mouth just now got stuck in his throat. He started to cough violently.
Looking at her father being choked, Lisa immediately gave him some water while Jennifer ran towards him and started to pat his back.
Once Phil calmed down, he gave a warning glare at his son-in-law, Dexter. Dexter understood and decided to become the scapegoat this time. Anyway, he did not have any proof that the old man was involved. If he helped him out now, he could use this as a trump card later when he needs his favor.
Even though Lisa understood that her father is also involved, she still decided to ignore that and just turned towards her husband and asked, "Do you know what her age was five years ago? She was a minor at that time and you even had the audacity to decide her marriage without my approval. Looks like it's time for you to move to the guest room for the time being."
"Let us just not discuss all these unimportant things for the time being. Dad, first tell me one thing, where is Elina? All I care about is her safety right now?" Jennifer just could not take this family drama anymore when her friend's life might be in danger.
She decided to settle the score with her father later, once she found Elina. Looking at his daughter's face, Dexter wondered if she would ever forgive him!
"He took her to his underground office and it is heavily guarded right now than at any other time. It is not very safe for you to go there right now without any proper plan. why, not let me handle this issue?" Dexter asked Jennifer.
"Now you want to handle this issue? Like how you handled our daughter's marriage proposal without my knowledge?" asked Lisa with a grunt.
"Mom, stop! That's enough! Dad, tell me if you put that notice for me, why did Aiden kidnap Elina?" Jennifer is still confused, as she was just with Aiden that morning and she even drove his car away.
He even got his name changed to Jayden. Something seemed wrong but she could not point her finger on, what exactly went wrong? How much ever she tried to recall about that incident, all she could see is that she was just played by that Aiden or Jayden. Maybe Elina was not even kidnapped in the first place and he just said that to confuse her.
"I heard that some of his close subordinates were bashed very badly and even received treatment in their family-owned hospital. But one of my spies did mention something like they were discussing how they picked the wrong girl because of their own boss and even had to receive the unjust punishment from him instead. Even I am really confused, why he would suddenly change the person and pick the wrong one. He usually does everything in a smart way and he never missed his target before. I was even slightly happy that he could become my potential son-in-law" Dexter said slowly and later realized that he even blurted out what was in his mind altogether and so he suddenly felt chill over his body.
He slowly crawled towards his daughter and looked at her pitifully, "JeJe, do not worry, if you don't like him then I won't force you to marry him."
Jennifer just ignored him completely and went to her room to think clearly. With this dramatic family around her, she could not even think properly and badly wanted some breathing space.
Once she reached her room, she took out her phone and called Cassie. She picked the call before the first ring and without even waiting for her to speak, Jennifer asked,
"Is Elina with you? Aren't you with her when I left, did she eat her lunch?"
"No! I thought she was with you. I came to our room long back but did not see you both. So, I thought you both went out for lunch. She did not even have any afternoon classes today. Maybe she went out to drool over some guy" Cassie replied casually.
Jennifer just cut the call without saying anything and tried to call Elina but she heard a ring in her own pocket. At that time she realized that when Elina went to meet the professor in the morning, She gave all her things to them and her phone ended up with her.
She just wanted to bang her head on the wall. What if Elina wanted to contact her and she put her in an even more vulnerable position without her phone. She then decided that she needed to go there to rescue her, even if she is not the girl who got kidnapped, it is better to make sure than wait until she contacts them.
Meanwhile, Cassie was wondering what happened? She received a call once more from Jennifer which she picked up faster than the previous call.
"What happened? Why did you cut all of a sudden? Did something happen? Should I try to search for Elina and inform her that you are looking for her?" Cassie just kept on raising questions without a gap which made Jennifer sigh.
"Stop panicking! Nothing happened! I just came to my home after showing the campus to our chairman as my Dad was not well. But just now I noticed that Elina's phone is with me. So, I wanted to inform you to tell her about it but because of a bad connection, my phone got disconnected. Just give me a call once Elina comes to our room after her sightseeing is over. I will be back by tomorrow or as soon as possible." Jennifer said.
"Yes! Sure! I will do that. I will even apply leave for you over here for today and tomorrow. You can take care of your Dad and come slowly, anyways all our classes are almost over. So no need to rush back. Dad's health is most important" Cassie said innocently and even worried for Dexter's health who is currently eavesdropping and standing near the door of his daughter's room. His ear was pasted to the door so much that it could even make a mark on it.
Jennifer then got ready to go to Aiden's underground palace. She kept her weapons well hidden and even took a few high-quality compounds which she personally made, which can make anyone induce sleep for several days with just a pinch.
Once Dexter realized that she was about to come out, he ran and kneeled down on the pace he was before. Lisa just rolled her eyes while Phil just ignored him completely as he was previously about to throw him under the bus.
When Jennifer came, she just went to her mother and said "I am leaving now! I will go directly to our college, once I rescue my friend Elina. And I plan to go overseas once this semester is over. I may come back after five or six years, so you do not have to panic if you don't hear from me for a long time"
"What are you saying? What…" before Dexter could even finish what he was saying, Jennifer just left in a second before he could process what happened.
He got up and ran towards the door but all he could see was dust flying around and even it went inside his eyes. He came back with tears in his eyes and called for his assistant to track Jennifer using the car she used. His assistant Lex came running towards him and said,
"Boss, all the cars are in our garage and madam got a new car when she came today. But I noted down the number and tried to trace it before but it turned out to be an unregistered number in the database"
"Why did you not inform me about it before? I am going to cut your allowance for this whole year", Dexter roared and kicked him on his leg.
Lisa came outside and saw that Lex was lying down while holding his legs. She thought he had the nerve to show his anger now to the weak and even made his daughter a laughing stock in the outside world. Now even the guest room is too high for him, I will just make him sleep outside the house until my daughter returns home.
