Chapter 7 - Stay Calm and No One will Expect You

After an uncomfortable meal having to endure the jealous stares, we finally left for the library. Why are these children all gossiping about us? I'm pretty sure when I was their age I was only concerned about eating candy for every meal.

More importantly, why does Dante look like he's up to no good? I mean yes, usually he is smiling, but currently his smile is giving me chills.

Perhaps... He is luring us into a dungeon?!

He glanced at me, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

I pouted my bottom lip, "Please don't throw us in your dungeon."

His face twitched, "I don't have a dungeon."

"Oh. Right. Sure." I winked at him.

He's obviously lying. (He's not)

We walked into the library and I wanted to faint with happiness. This library was the size of one in a major city! So many floors! So many books! I can easily sneak some back home so my grounding isn't as boring.

William glanced at me curiously, "Why did you want to come here?"

"Huh?" Williams sudden question brought me out of my thoughts. "Why not? Am I not allowed?"

William frowned, most likely done with my sh*t.

Millie tapped me on the shoulder lightly, "You shouldn't be so mean to William. Did he do something to you?"

William glanced over trying to appear disinterested. I looked at her with a hint of irritation.

Of course, everyone has to defend the main character. It's so annoying. But, maybe I have been too mean. But what can I say? His character was too boring and predictable.

Ugh. Fine.

I groaned, "I'm not trying to be mean. If you really want to know, I've been grounded and there's absolutely nothing to do. I'm here to try to find something to do."

He looked at me with an eyebrow raised, "Grounded? What did you do?"

I glared at Williams accusatory tone, "Why do you assume I did something?"

"Well one doesn't get grounded for no reason."

Tch. He's got a point.

I crossed my arms in irritation. "I didn't do anything in particular. I just simply pointed out to Queen Luna that my mother makes me dress in old clothing while she goes out and buys expensive brand-name clothes."

Dante smiled at me, "So you purposely wanted to make her lose status?"

"Of course. Wait, how'd you know?!"

"I didn't. You just confirmed it for me."

I paused. "F*ck."

Did this bastard just get me to admit my evil intentions?! I really want to smack that smug grin off his face.

William shouted, "Hey! Stop cursing!"

I made a face at William, "I didn't."

"Yes, you just did. We all heard it. Isn't this right Millie?"

"Oh... Yes..."

"Don't drag her into this!"

"Why not?"

"She's clearly biased!"

"Isn't she your friend? So if she was biased she would take your side."

"Please. You know that anyone would take your side over mine."

"Why would they?"

I rolled my eyes, "Are you really that self absorbed? It's because everyone is obsessed with you. You're so handsome even though you're just a child and you're a high achiever."

He blushed. Wait, why was he blushing? Did he really not know?

WAIT?! Why am I arguing with a child. I'm 26! F*ck this.

I tossed my hair over my shoulder, "Whatever. I'm going now."

I walked away from them and began searching the shelves for a specific genre. To be honest, I have a bit of an embarrassing secret.

I am obsessed with reading Isekai romances! I didn't care what type they were. Harems, Yaoi, BL, Yuri; they were all great!

But, my ultimate favorite? Erotic novels. The more erotic the better! Now, before you judge me, remember that I was 26 and never had a boyfriend.

Essentially, I was lonely and wanted to escape my life a bit. Since I don't particularly like people, I wanted to go into a world where I could experience what everyone else did. It kept me sane. (Did it?)

Well. Whatever. Right now I'm dealing with a new situation. Why didn't this library have any?!

I must have hectically searched the shelves several times. Why are all the books so educational and boring? I managed to find some romance books but they weren't the usual type I read.

This universe has successfully defeated me.

Oh well. At least it's better than nothing. I checked out the books and sat down next to Millie feeling defeated. I wanted to cry. I slammed my head into the table. Maybe the physical pain will make the real pain go away.

"Are you okay, Seri?"

"No! Life is too hard!"

"What happened now?"

"Millie, tell me the truth." I looked at her with a serious expression.

"Yes?"

"Do you know what Yaoi is?"

"No."

"Oh."

"Is that all?"

"Yes."

She turned back to her book and ignored me. I'm starting to get the feeling that Millie is quite cold.

A girl's voice came from behind, "Oh, what's this?"

Ugh. I recognize that annoying but proud voice.

Ilene smugly stared at me with her two goons. I sighed and rubbed my temples.

I don't really want to deal with this.

I responded apathetically, "Hey girl. Wassup."

She scrunched her nose in dissatisfaction, "Wow. You must have really gone crazy. I didn't believe it, but not only did you have lunch with my fiance, you also stalked him to the library!"

Stalked? That's a tad harsh. I almost forgot what an annoying character she was.

She looked down at me arrogantly, "Don't you know who you're messing with?"

I rolled my eyes, "Hmm. Not sure. I think it calls itself Ilene? But then again, I don't know. I can't understand it most of the time."

Her eyes widened from the unexpected insult, "W-what?! How dare you! I'm not an it!"

"How dare you speak to Ilene like that! She is the most beautiful girl at this school!" Her goon said indignantly.

The other goon added, "Not to mention she was specifically picked by Queen Luna to become William's fiance."

Ilene cleared her throat and gave a haughty smile. "Thank you girls. This ugly girl just forgot her place. It looks like we will have to remind her."

I yawned, "Uhuh. Sure. Now why are you still here?"

She scowled, "I said you need to learn your place. If you don't leave William alone, I will make your life hell."

Is she admitting that she is a demon?

I shook my head uninterested, "For one, I have no problem leaving William alone because he's boring."

"You-"

I interrupted, "However, I can't control what he does and neither can you. Honestly, If you don't change that sh*tty behavior of yours, you will only push him away more."

She blinked in shock, "I don't have a sh*tty personality!"

I sighed and shook my head in exasperation. I stood up and patted her on the shoulder, "Hunny. Make men chase you, not the other way around."

I walked away quickly leaving her and her goons frozen in their spot.

Perfect getaway! Hehe! Now that I have time, I should go find that janitors closet.

I skipped through the hallways glancing at the doors. Why are there so many rooms in this building? Isn't that a fire danger?

Aha! They actually labeled the door as the janitors closet! Lucky!

I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I glanced around the hall to make sure I was alone. I pulled out the pin in my hair and easily broke the lock.

Hehe. Thanks MeTube.

I tiptoed into the room and began to search through it. I'm pretty sure janitor closets are supposed to look and smell like actual depression. I mean, I've never encountered one that didn't have a 5 year old mop growing mold on it.

Yet, this closet was so clean I could even see the gold trim. Ack. My heart. Even the janitors have luxury.

I looked through the boxes and found some rope. Hehe. Let me just save this for later. Now, where do they keep the damn matches?

"Why are you looking for matches?"

"So I can set that d*mn carriage on fire."

"Why do you want to set the carriage on fire?"

"It makes me motion sick. I'd rather walk."

"You're interesting. The matches are on the third shelf to your right."

I pulled out the box and found a set of matches. I grabbed them gleefully. Yes! Success! Wait a second... Was I talking to someone?

I turned around to see Dante smiling at me deviously.

I jumped, "EEK!"

He burst into laughter and wiped his tears away, "How did you not notice me? You were talking to me."

I was? Oh sh*t. I was. Truthfully, I thought it was just a voice in my head, but I couldn't let him know that. He'd think I was crazy.

Okay. Play it cool.

I spoke casually, "Of course I noticed you or else I wouldn't have responded."

He chuckled, "Heh. Sure."

I shifted uncomfortably under his gaze. Of all the people to get caught by, why'd it have to be this sadistic boy?!

Wait! Maybe he's not sadistic yet. Maybe he's still a good boy.

Actually... How was he in the original novel again? I recall he acted a certain way with the female lead, Mary. But then with strangers he acted so different.

Ah yes! If I remember correctly, in the novel he was friendly to strangers. He would always laugh and smile, but none of it was genuine. It was only when he became obsessed with Mary did he reveal how sadistic and cold he truly was.

Either way. It's best to avoid my future killer.

"Well. If you'll excuse me." I tried to walk around him, but he stepped in my way.

Oh sh*t. I have a bad feeling about this.

His grin had a trace of coldness, "Where do you think you're going?"

"Well, class will be starting soon.. So..."

He chuckled, "Perhaps I should go to the office and report who I just saw stealing."

My mouth dropped. The bastard! Did he plan this all along?!

"You wouldn't dare."

"Oh? Why's that?"

F*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck.

He snickered, "Hmm. I guess I can forget this."

"Really?" I smiled at him happily. Yes! Somehow I've gotten away with this!

"If..."

F*ck.

"If you'll do something for me."

Ack. I looked at him cautiously, "What."

He shrugged, "Well at the moment I can't think of anything. But I will let you know if I come up with something in the future."

Under that sadistic grin, I realized I had just sold my soul to the devil.
