"She's just confused," I heard Luke say, still defending me even when I sensed the doubt in his heart. "…right?"
The sun was just rising when we first started our search for the Serpent's Lair, but now it was high in the sky, making the summer heat even worse in the dense forest. I hate to admit it, but I'm pretty sure we're lost. All those years inside had to have dulled my memories a little—or a lot.
"I—I think we're lost," I said, and the two men stopped simultaneously. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," Luke said, tapping my shoulders. "I'm sure anyone would be lost in this dense forest. It's fortunate that you have me here."
"Why?" Elliot asked.
Luke puffed out his chest. "A werewolf will never get lost in a forest."
"But we are lost right now."
