An arrow flew past us in the middle of the dead forest, nearly hitting us if not for Luke's quick reaction. All three of us quickly got to our feet and hid behind a nearby tree, looking for any signs of the shooter. Elliot went to hide behind the tree across from us, scanning both me and Luke for any wounds as he did so.
"Who is there?" Luke shouted, but no answer came.
Of course, no one comes out. Unless they were confident that they could take us on head-on, they must be determined to kill us from the dark. As always, black witches love to hide.
[Are you okay?] I asked Luke, whose cheek had been grazed by the arrow. He hadn't had time to respond before his cheek healed on its own. [Thank you.]
[Violet, sweetheart, you should know by now that I would much prefer your kisses as a thank you.] He winked at me then, acting as if we were not currently in danger.
