Chapter 10 - THE PRESENT 2

"Boyfriend?" Bella wondered in confusion as the guy jerked his hand away from her. She quickly turned around and fled from the cinema when she saw the security men running in her direction.

Bella ran out of the cinema building and ran into an open van. She bent down in the backseat of the car and watched as the security men ran past the van.

She raised her head to see the driver of the van nodding his head to the beat of a music. He was wearing a giant headset, and she could hear the sound of the music from her position in the backseat of the car.

Just as she stood up to leave, she spied the security men returning towards the van, so she quickly ducked.

***********

"Get down! I want to drive myself!" Dan told the driver of his van irritably as he snatched the headset off his ears. He could tell the driver had been listening to one of his music, and that only seemed to irritate him the more.

"But your manager said I should..."

"Do I look like I care about what my manager says? If you don't want to lose your job, get out of the car and get lost!" Dan muttered angrily.

He was in a foul mood and was feeling very restless. He needed some time alone. Maybe he could go camping or fishing—anything to take his mind off his current problem.

The driver reluctantly got out of the car and handed him the keys, and before Bella knew it, the van door was shut.

Just as Dan turned on the van's ignition, the security men approached him, "Mr. Williams, did you, by chance, see a lady run by?" One of the security men asked him.

"No, I didn't. Is there a problem?" He asked impatiently.

"We are searching for a young lady who caused trouble a while ago. You can go. Sorry for the disturbance," They apologized before letting him go.

Bella sighed and slumped on the seat of the van as he drove off. She was going to stay quiet until he got out of the van, and then she would sneak out and find her way home.

"Shit!" Dan muttered as he thought about the events of the day.

He had been in the middle of a signing event which his manager had pleaded with him to attend for the sake of his desperate fans, when he received a call from his mother, telling him that his father had just been diagnosed with cancer.

He had excused himself from the event and had rushed over to the hospital immediately to see his father.

"Please, son, you have to step in and take over the company now that your father is ill," His mother had pleaded with him, holding his hands with tears in her eyes.

"You know I can't do that. You, of all people, should know that music is my life. I have my music and acting career to pursue," He said, shaking his head.

"Don't refuse it. Just think about it. Please. This is what your father really wants," She had pleaded desperately.

"Why do you want me to step in when you can take care of the company? Why do you want me to do it when Patrick is there?" Dan asked, wiping his face with his hands.

"Because it is you your father wants, not your half-brother!" His mother had insisted before finally changing the subject.

Dan sighed as he distractedly turned on the stereo of the van. He didn't understand why his family still didn't understand that he lived for music and acting.

He was just going to spend the next two days thinking about it, even though he knew the chances of changing his mind were very slim and next to impossible.
