Chereads / Psycho's Mine / Chapter 7 - Showtime

Chapter 7 - Showtime

I went to the office first to sign the paperwork that is due today and told Beth to reschedule all my appointments for next week. Also reminding her to divert any important calls to my personal number and to call me whenever there are a life and death situation which I doubt honestly.

Well, we never know what will happen anyway.

After visiting the office, I went to the spa and to my hairdresser to obviously, style my hair or something. I spent the rest of the morning pampering myself. Had a manicure and shopped for clothes. Not like I'm really looking forward to this meeting.

I checked my reflection in the vanity mirror, looking at every angle with keen eyes, and smiled in content. The plum dress I'm wearing accentuated every curve that I have. The sweetheart neckline clung to my bosoms, giving a sneak peek of my cleavage. The dress stops an inch above my knees and tightly secures any unnecessary movements.

One last look and I'm ready to go. I grabbed my silver pouch on the bed, spraying my usual perfume and I strutted out of my penthouse suite.

The drive towards Nagasaki Corporation involves me practicing my speech and calming my nerves. I can't help but to be nervous, this would be my first official meeting with him and not just some random bumping in the dark and stalking him anymore. The first two are not counted because it's either entirely coincidental or I initiated it.

I stopped right in front of the building and gathered my wits before I opened the door. Stepping out of my car, my eyes gazed at the tall building looming in front of me. The edifice stretched upwards like it was reaching the sky.

Impressive...

I thought to myself as I gazed. This is "the" Nagasaki Corporation after all.

I heaved a sigh to release the budding stress I have and tilted my chin up then gracefully walked towards the building's entrance. I smiled at the receptionist who looked at me.

"I have a meeting with Mr. Nagasaki," I stated coolly at her.

Her eyes didn't look convinced and just forced a smile instead.

"I'm sorry but Mr. Nagasaki is not in."

Her tone was monotonous like it was practiced and used daily. She clearly doesn't believe me at all.

Is it because a lot of women come here to look for him? Maybe this is an automatic reply to chase away unwanted people.

"You must be mistaken, he told me to meet him at noon. You can ask him or his secretary to confirm it." I indulged.

I don't want to be chased away just because of some habits or protocol.

The receptionist pursed her lips in dissatisfaction, I was still smiling but deep inside, I'm really having this urge to give her a tongue lashing or something. And why on Earth didn't Keith told the receptionist beforehand that I am coming? This is not right at all! I'm a CEO too for heaven's sake!

"I told you, Mr. Nagasaki is not in, he wouldn't meet anyone for today." She insists, still sporting that disproving look.

I, therefore, snapped. What the hell. I mean I understand that he might be chasing away unwanted guests but why is she lumping me together with those people?

"Look here Miss, I am a very busy person. You either ask Mr. Nagasaki about me or you'll get yourself fired for incompetence later. How about that? You didn't even ask for my identity first!"

Her eyes widened after hearing what I said, I was really annoyed. If not for the fact that I really wanted to meet him today, my ass would have long gone strutted off this building.

"You're name Miss?" She asked, fumbling to the telephone in front of her.

I told her my name and she quickly called whoever it was, maybe the CEO's office. I saw her face paling and gave me a look. After a while, she put the receiver down and sported a guilty smile.

"Mr. Nagasaki awaits you in his office, Miss McIver, sorry for the long wait. There was just a misunderstanding regarding your identity."

"It's fine," I replied.

"Just push 37th-floor Ma'am and Antonio will escort you to Mr. Nagasaki." She added.

My eyes lingered at her for the last time before I walked across the lobby, not minding the looks I'm getting.

The elevator opened with a ding, revealing someone.

Tch.

Of course, that someone should be no other than Kate, Keith's twin sister.

One of her brows went up when she saw me, I also raised mine as I looked at her. When I discovered that Keith was her twin brother, I was so surprised. She never told me about that even during the time that we were best friends. I got so mad because of it, and frustrated too. Of all people, why her? Such an unpleasant coincidence.

"What a surprise, what bad air that brought you here Wynter?" She remarked after she stepped out of the elevator.

"None of your business," I replied curtly. Already pressing the up button.

"Whatever." She scoffed with a roll of her eyes before walking away.

Oh wow, I did not expect that. Normally she would start some war of words but whatever, she's not the reason I came here.

As the elevator ascends, my nerves started to pick up. I look at my reflection on the elevator's surface, checking if there are smudges on my mascara or if my lipstick's perfect. I also started patting down my hair just in case some stray strands escaped my meticulous braid.

I counted every floor number that passes, and as the lift gets nearer, I became more nervous.

The elevator stopped exactly on the 37th floor. I smoothed the imaginary creases on my dress and filled my lungs with air to gather composure.

This is it...

I stepped out of the elevator, and a man in suit immediately emerged from the shadows and bowed.

"I am Antonio, Mr. Nagasaki's assistant, this way Miss." He stated and stepped aside to escort me.

"Lead the way," I replied. Masking my nerves with a cool facade.

It's showtime.
