Chapter 13 - For a Cause

"Heaven court inflicted me or it is a call from you Asaya, it's giving me mind-blowing!" Asana grunted and got back to reading.

"In the twilight when the sun and dark were fighting over their space I heard voices and woke up. I could barely hear what they were saying, just unclear noises like some men barking. As I heard a female scream and I got up from my bed. I watched outside the window.

There some shadows were moving quickly. I recognized Zia and uncle fighting with some strangers. I picked my sword and descended by the balcony.

I joined the fight. Uncle frowned finding me there. Anyways Zia was covering me. Men with dark clothing covered their faces attacked them and uncle Shareeq was fighting with his nightclothes. Even inside the lobby, the others were defeating. Salman's arm was injured, the contention went along out of the guesthouse. There were many of them still outside and the badge of fire and sword in the middle of that golden circle, tangled on their sword learnt me that who they are, "Nickbones".

An arrow flew in the air whistled and directly came to me, but in the middle of its way ripped to half by another arrow and fell to the ground. I searched for the second arrows' direction and saw that attractive gray hooded stranger that I met that night. Mr. Weirdo was there to cover for me.

Nickbones' pitched-battle strategy was incredulously amazing like light feathers flying around, very fast and incisive movements. My martial art masters were my father and uncle. They had learned many of that from their mother and that was my privilege to stand strong against them.

I faced one of them with green eyes who painted dark kohl through his eyelid. I knew that it is another Nickbones' custom. Rage boiled my blood. Those nasty devils killed my mother cruelty and had kidnapped my father. They left no place to be forgiven.

His sword kissed mine and rasped. He used his other hand and unsheathed a dagger. It was like my mother's one but made of copper. He brushed me back by forcing me to hurt my abdomen. I dodged and pivoted on my left feet.

I could see it into his eyes that he wondered who I am, but at the moment I was his death angel. "Where is my father?" I asked.

"So you are Amal's daughter!" He murmured, but I heard clearly.

He was distracted and I seized him and swirling non-stop and finally, I made a scratch on his arm and then slipped back and kneeled on my right knee while the other one stretched back to afford me to attack him again.

"Retreat", a voice cried out when the Roman guards arrived. They jumped up on the roof and escaped. Their advanced tools for escaping wondered me. They had claw-shaped hooks with thin strong strings on their waist which allowed them to leave faster and flew all around.

We went between the crowd and when the guard's commander inquired for information. People supported us and a merchant from Lydia who already knew my father stated, "They were thieves who attacked us, but these brave men and woman saved us".

The guards left to seek more things about them. I ignored them already busy looking for Mr. Weirdo, but he left no trace. I asked uncle about the king's spy and he admitted that there was one to give them hand in necessary terms.

We walked back in, Silman had to bandage his arm so left with his brother and I found my uncle, "Uncle how did they find us?" He came to me in rush searching to see if they caused me any scratch.

"Oh dear heavens! Asaya how did you came out, you should've stayed in your room". His tone almost shrilled.

"I couldn't stay while you were fighting, but please answer my question", I led him to a chair in the lobby and he responded, "Salman's brother came to my room and warned me that these strangers are asking the guests about us! So we came out and realized that Robin and Nathen got engaged to them".

On the next sunny morning, we wrapped up our stuff and proceeded to the frozen mountain. The place that uncle and father had hidden the other half of the stick. Uncle paid the inn's damages to ease his conscience and heaven court's anger. We mounted and rode to our destination.

We passed villages. The snow melted around noontime and watered the earth. We camped in the wild that as the sky turned to a night. The owls were baying to declare their presence. We had another daylight before us to reach the frozen mountains.

I was sitting by the fire, pushing broken wood chips into the fire by a bare long maple branch in my hand. My fist rested on my chin, drawn in my thought when Zia asked, "Father why this stick can bring conquest or fracture?"

"You should've asked the one who made it, but everything had been made for some reasons. Maybe at that time it was essential to send it between us, a cause that we can't comprehend".

"I don't believe in heaven court what if they made a big mistake? So they must accept the consequences alone!" Zia blurted and uncle gaped to blame him, but I cut it.

"What if it goes to the wrong person?" I asked already thinking about it.

"Then we must pray it doesn't happen because it can get inflicted by a demonic power and awaken the filthy sources".

His eyes proved to us how dangerous it is and when he stopped Khalid added, "None of the lands want to see dark magic ruling us again, not even those boastful immortals".

I didn't care if immortal lands will take it seriously or not, but they were kind of dangerous themselves. There were selfish and wicked ones between them and we shall be vigilant since many creeds have been seeking for more power.
