"Morning Doctor Jian, why so early today?"
The nurses were quite surprised to see Doctor Jian visit the wards early in the morning. The residents behind him still look like living corpses with black eyes. Usually Doctor Jian is kind enough to have morning rounds at 9.30 on Saturday morning. This gives his resident time to sleep longer and breathe easier.
Jian Kang Lu stands behind the nurses table with one hand above the desk. He just smiled slightly and said "I have lunch appointment today, so I need to finish the morning round earlier."
"Woah, is it lunch with a beautiful lady? Doctor Jian, you can't do that! That's called cheating. You'll break my heart!" The senior nurse who is already married for 25 years and has a 24 yo son makes an exaggerated surprised and sad face. After that she pouted her lips like a maiden in vain.
Jian Kang Lu laughed and put his hand in his heart with a solemn face "I swear sister Liu is still the most beautiful lady in my heart. So don't give me your sad face. Give me your smile and the patient's charts instead, my beloved sister."
"Liar! You even wear your best shirt today! You're even wearing these blue jeans that I haven't seen for a million years. Why do you even have to dress up so handsome if you don't have a date today?"
Jian Kang Lu made a surprised face and slightly raised his beautiful straight eyebrows.
"So sister Liu thinks that this expired old man is still handsome? What a pleasure to hear that from my beautiful sister. I believe you tell the truth, since sister Liu is the purest and honest fairy of this hospital."
Nurse Liu just laughs to hear that sweet talk, and gives him stacks of patient records of her wards. "Here, I don't want to be the person who prevents our Hou Yi to meet his Chang'e from his lunch date. You still have 4 wards to visit, right?"
"Yes, but I plan to finish those earlier today. Can't let my Chang'e wait too long for me, or else she will fly back to the moon."
Nurse Liu was even more surprised to hear those affirmation back from Doctor Jian. She never heard Doctor Jian confirm his statement that he has a date in the past few years. But then she smiled sincerely and said "I hope your lunch date today will go well, Doctor Jian. I want to see your wedding invitation with that beautiful Chang'e soon."
Jian Kang Lu smiles back and starts to open the patients charts. He questioned the residents on his side right away.
Nurse Liu smiling then turned around to see her young junior nurses still have a shocked face and curiosity aroused filled the air around them. This is the first time in so many years that Doctor Jian implicitly tells them that he had a date.
And he looks so damn handsome today!!!
Doctor Jian's face today beaming with a different glow from usual. His smiles look more enchanting, and those curved eyes emitting the warmth which feels different from his usual charming smiles. It looks so fresh and his complexion is just blinding.
Nurse Liu right about Doctor Jian wore his best shirt. The beige long sleeve shirt made from a smooth high quality material. It had a soft emboss pattern which made Doctor Jian radiating his elegance aura more than usual. The cutting also emphasises those slim but muscular chest and waist. Elegant, yet sexy.
He doesn't look like a man over 30 years old. In fact he looks younger than those living corpses behind him! The dark blue jeans add the young looks from Doctor Jian. It wrapped his long legs perfectly that made his legs look even longer. It's not tight or loose. Just the right figure that only a small percentage of man could achieve. Definitely an apple to the hospital worker's eyes.
Who would believe if this is not an outfit for a date? And now they are just curious, from which moon this Chang'e came from and suddenly visit the earth to hook up with their Doctor Jian?
The residents can't even have the privilege to get surprised upon hearing their senior superior have a date. They are too busy to think about their own life. They haven't enough time to think about the right answer from the pile of questions from Doctor Jian. Usually he will ask them slowly and point the charts one by one before they visit the patients.
But today, Doctor Jian asks them so quickly and starts to walk to each patient's room without even hearing their stuttering answer. The sweats from their forehead down to their armpit just flow freely. Who the hell is this Chang'e that makes our living Buddha torturing them like this!!!
From Monday to Friday, the morning round is at 8 o'clock. Which means the resident usually starts wandering in the ward at 5 in the morning. Sometimes even earlier if the professor has rounds too.
But Jian Kang Lu is a living Buddha in the eyes of an internal medicine resident. He took the Saturday round which was supposed to be his junior, Yang Haoyu's responsibility. And he is kind enough not to punish or scold the resident if they don't master the patient's record. Unless the resident made a fatal mistake.
So Saturday round is usually a half free day for the resident. They can start checking the patient from 8 o'clock and wrap up the rest of the administration job later after visiting the patients. But last night, at 11 pm, the resident saw the horror message for the first time in their life. Doctor Jian will do his morning round at 7 o'clock.
Jian Kang Lu wakes up at 5 o'clock today. He just made a simple breakfast this morning, egg toast and cucumber juice. It was too early to order food and he wanted to arrive earlier at the shopping mall today. He already arrived at the ward at 6.45 in the morning.
He can't be late at their first "date", right? He planned to finish the morning round at 10 at the latest and meet his kitten at 11 o'clock.
Three hours surely is not enough. So the residents today feel like rushing in a hurricane, busy writing the notes and pointer from Jian Kang Lu, with no leisure time to discuss the patient further. Usually the morning round is one of the times for them to learn more about the patient's symptoms and other possibility of complications and treatment. And Saturday round is even more special.
This Saturday used to be their ultimate weapon to perfectly having Monday round with Doctor Zhao Yang. Even though Doctor Zhou's position is below Doctor Jian, but he is surely a living
But if they manage to squeeze Doctor Jian's knowledge on Saturday, and ask for an important pointer, they surely will pass Monday round alive. Not so well, but at least alive. Doctor Jian sometimes even treats them for lunch and discusses the patient furthermore.
Or sometimes asking for their struggle outside the patients matter. He will help them in his capacity, if he could. That's why Jian Kang Lu is their living Buddha.
Jian Kang Lu gives them an apologetic smile when he sees his resident's face getting paler with black lines once they know he will leave them to study alone for their Monday round. He actually knows about Zhao Yang's cruelty. But in this medical field, cruelty is necessary.
He believes in one institution, there has to be a good cop and bad cop system. Without the bad cop, the resident won't push their own maximum potential. But without the good cop, residents will fall into depression and anxiety. And he saw a lot of his own colleagues suffer from those.
Zhang Min is one of them.
Since he's single, he offered to stay at his role doing Saturday round 2 years ago. At that time, Zhao Yang was supposed to take over his role as his junior. But Jian Kang Lu said he wants to stay at his schedule and offer Zhao Yang to fill the Monday round.
Last month, his junior Yang Haoyu was supposed to take over the Saturday round too. But he is a married man with 1 daughter. So Jian Kang Lu said it was necessary for Yang Haoyu to accompany his family on the weekend compared to a single dog like him.
"I'm sorry I can't accompany you today, but if you still have questions, you can list the questions and email me. If I manage to have free time today or tomorrow, I will send you the reference to read more about our patients today."
The resident's face colour returned to normal a little bit after hearing his promise. They bow to him and waved him goodbye.
"Hope your lunch appointment today went well, Doctor Jian!"
Jian Kang Lu smiles slightly hearing them. "Yes, I need good luck wishes. Thank you."
He really hopes this lunch "date" with his kitten turns out well.
