Chapter hundred and twenty seven
Elixir turned swiftly to see the person that had correctly recognized her in the crumbling hospital. She made a mental note to inquire why Veronica would sign off for her baby to be taken to a clinic to couldn't afford air-conditioning. It was dreadful.
She clutched her bag tightly as if it would comfort her but all to no avail. She waited for the young doctor to get close enough to inform her of the status of her son.
When Veronica called her to inform her that her son was being pulled out of a collapse room, Elixir was sitting in on a board meeting with her investors. She remained calm. She smiled warmly at them and politely excused herself with a vague excuse that sounded like a family emergency. Then she threw up in the toilet and sat at the floor of the restroom as she waited patiently for the room to stop spinning.
