It turned out that Clement had found Tyke already, and Claudette had just run around like an idiot being chased by a bunch of goons.
To top it all off, he had come back for her like she was some distressed damsel and he was the gallant savior going out of his way to rescue her. He dared to give her that look. She wanted to come back with some witty retort, but she was too overcome with rage to do anything other than stand there. Her fists stayed at her sides, and her cheeks turned a deep shade of crimson.
Luckily, Tyke had her back.
"You mean you let the lady run around this godforsaken city with a bunch of imbeciles tailing her?"
Claudette couldn't tell if his tone was genuine or mocking. But he turned to her with a wink and added, "No offense, lovely, because I know you're quite capable, and I greatly appreciate the diversion, but…"
Tyke paused and looked back at Clement, his expression reproving.
