"Where's Karl" sir Owen asked. "We, we, we lost him" sir Magnus said and quickly passed out. That was when we noticed he was bleeding on is left shoulders. "Sir Magnus?". Sir Owen quickly tore a part of his garment and wrapped it around the wound to stop the bleeding. "Kahlan quickly get some of those leaves" Sir Owen said pointing to some leaves and Kahlan rushed and got them quickly. Sir Owen squeezed it and the water from it dropped into sir Magnus' mouth. After a few seconds he gasped and woke up. We were all so relieved to have him back.
We gave him time to rest and heal. It was night already. "Sir Karl gave up his life for us. He woke up in the middle of the fight, I was almost killed but sir Karl held back the dangerous and beastly troll who already hurt me with it's claws. He asked me to run and protect you" sir Magnus narrated as we all sat around a fire. "We can't let Qarinah win. We have to fight. Sir Karl trusted us to successfully carry out this mission and we must" Kahlan said. "Or maybe we should just head back, it's not too late now" I said. "And let him die for nothing?, no my lady. We'll get help and get rid of your Stepmother for good" Kahlan said and left to rest on her sleeping space.
'We can do this my lady. We can't give up" Sir Owen said. After a few minutes, Kahlan suddenly got up and came back to sit with us. "Hey, what was that fog back there, what do you think brought it on?" She asked. "That's right, it came from no where" sir Owen concurred. "I don't know. I don't think it's something I can put my fingers into" sir Magnus said wondering. I thought about it for a while then said "I think someone is watching over us, or something, not someone". "No, not over us, over you Lady Diana, just you" Kahlan put in. "Why would you think that Kahlan, why would you think it's just me and not us all?" I asked. "Sir Karl. Sir Karl would still be alive now if something is watching over us. Sir Karl is not reason to think that" Kahlan said sadly. "I think you have a point, lady Diana has a way of always surviving, she is the first to live this long after being married to lord Torren,band then.." Before sir Owen could finish, sir Magnus cut him off "that's enough. Don't make my lady feel uncomfortable. We have a long way to go tomorrow, it'll be best if we rest now". Everyone was quiet and we all slowly went on to rest. I couldn't rest that night, I kept on wondering if something or someone was really watching over me, what could it be, and why me. What makes me special?
In Darca, Louisa was doing everything she could to keep Torren and the citadel safe but somehow Qarinah managed to make her way in. They had taken over Darca. There were a lot of dead bodies on the street. Qarinah and her cohorts already won the battle over Darca. Now Qarinah made her way to where Louisa had hidden with Torren, Ingrid and sir Leone. As she made her way in, sir Leone tried to stop her but she instantly sniffed the life out of him with magic. Louisa was now left alone with Ingrid and defenseless Torren.
"Louisa, how dare you betray your mother. You should be on my side not that girl's side" Queen Qarinah said angrily. "Mother, that girl is my sister, I love her, she's my family" Louisa cried. Queen Qarinah scoffed and said "love, Family, what do you know Louisa, you are still a little girl and little girls only listen to their mothers. Now, where's she?" "Gone to find a way to destroy you" Louisa responded. "Huh, well, that will be too late my dear" she said wickedly and started chanting some words then threw a dagger to Louisa's heart and it pierced her heart in an instant. Just then I jerked awake. It was all in my dream.
"Are you okay my lady?" I didn't realize Kahlan was awake and it was already the middle of the night. "Yes, I'm sorry to startle you. I didn't know you were awake" I apologized. "My lady it's just a nightmare. I don't know what you saw but you look really terrified". I didn't want to get Kahlan worried so I ignored her. "Why are you still awake?" I asked her. She sighed "don't know. Couldn't sleep. I keep wondering if we're making the right decisions but yeah, I know we are" Kahlan said sighing again.I held her hands "We will win Kahlan, trust me we will". "Yes. But then, what was your nightmare about?" She asked curiously. "Kahlan, Louisa can protect herself right?, she is a superior match to Qarinah right?" I asked in worries. "I see, don't worry Diana, they will be fine" Kahlan said. "Diana? You've never called me just that"
"Well I guess there is always a first time" Kahlan smiled.
I was so happy to hear her address me by my name without the lady or queen title. It made me feel less superior to her and it made me feel more comfortable around her. I smiled excitedly.
"Come on. Let's go to sleep. We have to travel non stop tomorrow" Kahlan dragged me down and soon enough we both fell asleep.
The next morning, we all set out on our journey. After encounter with the trolls had delayed us and now we spent more time on the way.
Sir Magnus brought out the map when we got to a valley. "This valley will lead us straight to the sea, once we have sailed passed the sea, we will be in Toga, the closest city to Draven. We need to stop by there and get swords and daggers. We can't get into Draven defenselessly but then we can't pose as any threat at all. So we'll also get peace looking clothes out there".
We all agreed and headed to the valley. "Avoid the edges" sir Owen warned. In no distant time. We where out of the valley and standing over the sea.
