Clarity returned to Lu Yizhou in stages. First, he registered that he was currently laying on top of a soft clean-smelling bed, naked save for the bandages that almost made him look like a mummy. Second, the distinct smell of medicine was overpowering. Third, his body was numbed all over from the anesthetic but at least, he could still move his fingers.
His breathing didn't falter as he switched to do it through his mouth. Then he tried to pick up the sounds from his surroundings. Faint footsteps, conversation, rustle of the trees, no second person nearby.
Slowly Lu Yizhou let out an exhale. [Plot.]
