Chapter 14 - Invitation

"Princess …"

"Princess …"

Princess Eleanor looked at the voices that were coming her way. Sir Kit who was sitting stood up immediately. The chair was kept in its original form as if it was never moved. He looked down as he stood on guard as a proper knight.

Princess Eleanor wanted to laugh but her eyes were focused on Nia's voice and the person that was walking toward them.

A smile formed on Princess Eleanor's face as she knew that Nia was shouting so that she would know that someone was coming. Princess Eleanor was happy that her lady in waiting was intelligent.

"Eleanor.." Princess Macy shouted as she looked at Princess Eleanor with wide eyes. "How dare y…"

"Princess Macy, is there any reason for such a sudden visit? I was having a discussion." Princess Eleanor smiled as she tried to indicate to Princess Macy that there were guests but her cousin was in no mode to listen.

"What discussion? Are there still people who are willing to come he…" Princess Macy's words stopped when she saw an unknown man standing there. She could see that he was a knight but the man was wearing a mask.

Princess Macy was silent. She knew the man should be from the Roulux Empire. The King had already informed everyone that an old lady and an escort were assigned to the crown Princess candidate.

Sir Kit bowed in respect to Princess Macy. The Princess followed as she nodded, "I need to talk to you. Alone." Princess Macy said in a serious tone.

"You can say anything that you want here." Princess Eleanor smiled as she moved her hand. Nia that was standing there in a daze suddenly pulled out a chair for Princess Macy. "One is my lady in waiting and the other is my knight. Feel free to say whatever you want."

Princess Macy moved her gaze from Nia to the unknown man. "Are you sure?"

Princess Eleanor smiled as she nodded. She knew what Princess Macy wanted to say, "Are you here to talk about your marriage?"

Princess Macy laughed but her anger was evident. It was dripping through her words, "So you know I am getting married in a month and yet you called my fiance here for breakfast."

"I called him?" Princess Eleanor raised her eyebrows. Her body was relaxed as she said, "Are you sure I called him? He came here on his own."

"Do you think I believe it?" Princess Macy banged her hand on the table, "I had talked with Duke Felix. He said the only reason he was writing letters to you was that he feels sorry that his friend has lost her parents. Although I know what his true feelings are, I want to make sure you know it too."

"The only person in Duke Felix's heart is me." Princess Macy said, "Don't have an attachment to him. And stop calling him here from time to time."

Princess Eleanor's eyes sharpened. Her eyes moved a little as she saw Nia looking down. Her hands had formed a fist as she bit her lips. Princess Eleanor could not imagine what Nia was going through.

"I think there is a misunderstanding." Princess Eleanor smiled, "I was having a quiet breakfast with Lady Gisella and Sir Kit. If you doubt my words then you can confirm with Sir Kit."

Princess Macy looked at the man standing behind Princess Eleanor. He was a tall man with a well built body. His dark eyes looked at her with an unknown aura.

Sir Kit nodded his head in confirmation.

Princess Macy was silent. All she knew was that Duke Felix had his breakfast at Princess Eleanor's palace. After she had seen them together in the room, her heart was never quiet. The storm of uncertainty was always there.

Princess Macy clenched her hand as she bit her lips. If what Princess Eleanor was saying was true then it was a clear indicator that Princess Macy's information was not complete. Princess Eleanor did not call her fiance but he came here of his own will.

"Why did he come here?" Princess Macy said in a trembling tone. She was afraid to hear the answer.

The change in Princess Macy's expression did not go unnoticed by princess Eleanor. She knew that she had to make the Princess happy otherwise her two days in the palace would be a living hell.

"He came to meet Lady Gisella and Sir Kit." Princess Eleanor smiled as he blinked her eyes in innocence, "And he gave me an unofficial invitation for your wedding."

Princess Macy's eyes widened in shock. "Duke Felix invited you?"

Princess Eleanor nodded, "Yes, he did. And I think it is natural as we are good friends. I don't know why you think that Duke Felix has feelings for me when he is marrying you."

"Rumours are going around." Princess Macy said softly, "And the letters .."

"Princess should know what type of man the Duke is." Princess Eleanor said. "But I must clear some things now. I know that Duke Felix is your fiancee, my brother-in-law. I know what I should and shouldn't do. Have a word with the duke and clear your misunderstanding."

Princess Macy was silent. She got up abruptly as she said in a soft tone. "I will meet you on the day you leave. I am sad that you would not be able to attend our wedding." With those words, Princess Macy walked back.

Princess Eleanor did not know how to react anymore. She knew that something would happen between the two.

Princess Eleanor turned her attention to Nia who was silent throughout, "This is why I did not want it to continue. Writing a letter to a married man is not suitable for a princess. Especially the one participating to be the Crown Princess of the Empire."

The tears from Nia's eyes tinted her cheeks. She was guilty of even thinking about it. "I am sorry …"

Princess Eleanor took a deep breath, "Go and talk with Duke Felix. I do not want him to visit me anymore. Tell your response to Sir Kit directly. Do not involve me in anything."

Nia nodded her head hurriedly. She didn't want to create more trouble for the Princess.
