Chereads / My Masked Lover / Chapter 29 - First time in his company

Chapter 29 - First time in his company

"Flirting?" I frown at him, "what do you mean by your words?" I tried to make sense of the words he spoke.

"You heard me damn right!" He growled in anger, "you were flirting without another male without shame, knowing you have a husband. Weren't you—"

" Wait a minute, Sly." I cut his words off at once, "how can you accuse me of flirting with another male when you're not aware of what it was that happened?"

I frown at Sly.

" What happened? I know what I saw, Lee. You can't lie about that. The male was—"

"My exam was okay, thank you for asking." I turn my face to the side.

" We are not through—"

"What else do you want to hear?" I frown at him, "I took my exam with Brit, and thereafter, we came out to wait.

She was waiting for the father, while I decided to join her, to wait for you. We were both talking alone until the head of the student's body came to introduce himself to the new students.

But you cut it off without knowing the head and tail of the matter." I accused.

" I know what I saw, Lee. That male was definitely trying to flirt with you!"

" And there's something bad about that?"

" What—"

" You don't care about me, Sly. You treat me like a doll, and now you are—"

Those were the words I wanted so badly to say, but I didn't voice them out. Not for anything, but I did it to avoid stories that touch the heart.

Wouldn't want my husband to decide not to enrol me for that.

"I want to take a rest, Sly. Worrying about the boy is a waste of your time as I don't even know the name of the boy, talk more of his department.

Brit was the one drooling over him, and not I." I said those words in a very light voice so as not to anger him.

Currently, I'm treading on rough ground. Any slip from me determines the verdict.

"Better not be lying." He said those words as he continued with his driving.

Why's he angry?

I thought.

He has made it clear he wants nothing whatsoever to do with me, why will he then be angry if I spoke with another male?

Is he afraid I might end up running from him without paying back the money he spent on me, should I run away with another?

I smile a bit when I remembered Thor.

Should I run away with Thor, paying Sly his money won't be an issue at all.

All he needs to do is name the prize, and Sly will take care of it.

Instead of driving me home as initially thought, he changed course.

"Where are you driving me to?" I frown at him.

"To kill you." He said with a straight face.

"Be serious for once, Sly. Where are you taking me to?" I asked again, this time, I look out through the window as I tried to make out our location. But I wasn't able to.

The places he drove past are unfamiliar to my poor self, who has been caged in the mansion for a year.

I felt like Rapunzel in her tower. The only difference between us isn't only the location. She was locked by a witch who wanted her, to stay young and pretty. While I was locked by my husband.

The same male who vowed to protect me during our wedding didn't mess with his vows at all.

The moment those vows were taken, he immediately put one of them into practice, and that was locking me up against my will.

Sly didn't reply to my question, and nor did he turn to acknowledge me. All he did was switch the radio on, and raise the volume so high, that it almost made my poor ears bleed.

Despite that, I didn't say any words about it. I just endured it like I was told, by my stepmother, of course.

This was among her million dollars advice to the poor boy, whose wedding to the richest self-made billionaire made her a millionaire.

I was told to endure.

She said not everything will go in my favour.

And she didn't lie about the last one.

Sly drove into the parking lot of a company. One that suspiciously looks like those high-rated companies I see in the movies.

"Why are we here?" Asking that question, I look out through the window as I admired the specimen in front of me.

I thought I've seen it all until I saw the company. It's unlike any I've ever seen.

"Are you getting down or what?" He asked in a clipped voice. His face was masked in a frown.

"I'm getting down. Jeez, don't get your panties in a twist yet." I roll my eyes at him as I got down from the vehicle.

I banged the door behind me as I tried to show him how frustrated I am.

If he noticed my mode, he said nothing about that. He didn't even comment on the dark expression I have on my face.

"Let's go." He starts walking towards the building, leaving me behind to Carter for myself.

"Wait up!" I shouted as I ran after him.

In an unfamiliar place like this, it's not advisable to walk alone, for fear of getting lost.

I know who Sly is. He's not one to mount out a search for my sake. He would rather relax, and wait for me to find my way, than search for me.

The moment we stood in front of the computerized door, it opened by itself, and we walked in.

"Good day sir." A well-dressed man in an iron suit greets us as we walk past him.

Well, Sly was the one who walked past.

" Where is your ID? I need to have a thorough verification of your person before—"

"It's okay, Don, he's with me. You don't have to bother about the verification of a thing."
