Chapter 40 - CH. 40: At Least Be Human Enough

"She got there before you do? Imbecile's. I have given you only one task and that is to get that woman for us. What is wrong with all of you?!?! Not doing your works properly!!!"

Amanda was seething mad when her people called to say that they failed in obtaining Yukina Sasaki.

"And what was she doing there? Where are the shadows?? Why have I not heard of it?"

"They were there and it seemed that she was going to talk to the young master."

"What about it?!!? Why are people not telling me anything?!?!"

She was close to exploding, this is a big blunder.

Yukina Sasaki was a good asset, her potential is big. Once properly developed she would be a great asset to their company and many more.

"Where did that woman got all her money?" she asked in gritted teeth.

'I am still Heather Relish, even though I was disowned. I had the genes of a Relish. I am smart and capable enough that without anyone's support I can stand and find ways to survive in this world.'

After remembering Heather's words, Amanda threw everything on the table in front of her.

"She-"

"ENOUGH!!"

The man was stopped from explaining where Heather got her money.

*BEEP BEEP*

Amanda slammed her fist on the table.

"This is unacceptable!!!"

"Does she know Yukina? No, that is impossible. Then was she aware that Yukina is talented? Why was her timing so coincidental?"

*DING*

She stopped thinking when she heard her phone's message notification.

'Blunder.'

It was one word but she felt cold sweat on her back.

The number was named 'A' and that was it but her paling face indicates that this person is someone she could not offend.

"ARGHH!!"

She slumped on the chair.

With this move, Heather is becoming more of a headache for her. She needs to move even faster, she needs to find a different wife.

*DING*

'Understand her.'

She stared at the message for a while, it meant that the person wants her to check if Heather will be an enemy or not to them.

After some thought, Amanda remembered that the seventy fifth anniversary of Porter Medicines were coming up in two months.

What she will try to know now was Heather's stand towards Cyrus.

Once she was aware of it then she will know what to do next.

If Heather was on Cyrus' side, then she will make use of her instead.

If not, then she will dispose of her once she finds the most suitable wife.

*****

"That's why I am telling you I need to talk to him," Heather said to the receptionist and guard who didn't want to let her go up and meet Cyrus.

"That's why we also are telling you, please contact him before we will let you in," the receptionist explained.

Heather could see that she really couldn't let her in and not simply because she was disrespecting her.

With no other choice she brought out her phone and dialed his number.

*DUT DUT DUT*

She tried again.

*DUT DUT DUT*

She gritted her teeth before doing it again.

She was not blocked and she can hear it ringing. But it was obvious that, Cyrus was the one who was ending it and that's what infuriates her.

She was not here to ask him for his attention or whatever, can't he at least give her some face.

After five tries and when the people around her are feeling pity for her, since she was the wife they never saw but knew of, the call finally went through.

"Wh-"

"Can't you at least be human enough and answer my call? Did I ever reject your call?"

Cyrus, who was busy with paper works when he received her calls, was shock to hear her aggrieved voice.

He was focusing on the papers that he ended the call that was trying to disrupt his concentration, he has no idea that it was actually Heather who was calling.

After all, she never called him and the last time they talked on phone was three weeks or so ago.

"What do you need?" he calmed himself and asked her.

"I want to speak with you."

Heather calmed down the moment her sentence left her lips. She had completely forgotten that she was in the lobby of his company.

"We are talking now."

"I mean face to face. I am at the lobby of your office and I badly needed to talk to you. Business."

She added the word business in case he misinterprets that she was once again trying to get his attention by coming here.

Thinking back, it was night when she arrived then. The timing when the guards are on patrol, she was able to get in.

Though even if they saw her, they won't think too much as they knew her face.

During the day was a bit difficult since every single person present was well aware that Cyrus didn't like her and it seems that he had tasked them not to let her in.

'I should probably tell him somehow that his night guards are too negligent,' she thought remembering this.

Hearing no reply, "We can meet in the coffee shop across the street if you don't want me in your office, I wouldn't mind."

"It's fine, get up," he sighed.

Going outside is much more troublesome since more people will be seeing them together and more issues would arise. Reporters talking about their marriage is something he was not fond of.

"Fine, call your people then. If you hate me so much, I would appreciate it if you would at least inform me that I am actually not allowed in your office. Then I would have given you a call first and understand the situation," she took this chance to complain.

Cyrus pursed his lips, "Fine."

The call ended and the phone on the reception rang, Heather was given permission to go up.

"You may now go up, ma'am," the receptionist said and the guard stepped aside.

Heather nodded her head and went to the elevator.

She does not blame them for stopping her but she feels that it is unnecessary to talk to them either.

After getting up…

*KNOCK KNOCK*

"Come in."

His baritone voice was heard and when she opened the door, she found him working on a lot of papers in his desk.

'They said that men looked handsome when they are seriously working. I guess it was right,' she though as she walked over.

She caught a glimpse of a land and remembered something from the first life again.

'Seriously so many things have happened during this point of time.'

She shook her head and sat down on the chair opposite him.

"Speak," he said without looking up.

"I want my own laboratory in the villa."

She instantly caught his attention with her words.

He looked up from the papers and stared at her.

"That was it," she added when he was looking at her with inquiry.

"Why?"

"Isn't it obvious? You sometimes think too complicatedly over simple matters. You have seen the books I was reading when I fell sick, I heard it was you who fixed them-"

She clapped causing him to furrow his brows.

"I forgot to thank you, didn't I? When you were at the villa the moment that I returned the Monday after I got sick."

He simply looked at her not understanding what was going on in her mind. He was talking about one thing moments ago and now she was once again talking about another without finishing what she was saying first.

"Thank you for helping me to the room and for fixing my things."

She was genuine and he could see that but the fact that he did those things were irritating enough for him.

He felt like he was falling into her trap and he hates that.

Seeing him frown from her thanks, Heather shrugged, she knows when to be grateful and when to apologize. At the very least, she was able to thank him properly.

"Anyway…"

She stood up and walked towards the floor to ceiling slanted window on his office. Yet the moment she got close, she felt uncomfortable.

So without looking down she turned to face him only to step back when he was suddenly behind her.

He took a step towards her while she took a step back.

His face was cold and obviously angry.

They repeated this action until she was made to lean at the slanted window. Its slant will make one who was leaning on it, half lying down.

And it felt like you are floating in air.

Heather glanced and the view made her even more uncomfortable. She frowned, she was so used to high places why was she suddenly being uncomfortable?

"If you are not planning anything then why are you staying?"

She returned her look at him when she heard him speak.

It was devoid of emotions and he seemed like he was close to snapping at her. As if one wrong answer and he would shout at her.

Cyrus was known for his seriousness but he never got mad in public, he was never seen being like that. The same goes for Heather, she never saw him being so angry.

He hated her yes, but he always chooses to stay away instead of losing his temper at her.

But Heather's attention was currently on her position, she was being pinned by him on the window that even if she wanted to get up due to the uncomfortable feeling she's having, she couldn't.

She glanced back down and her breathing turned uneven, she felt like the scene below are moving up and down, she started feeling dizzy.

Yet when she turned her face that way. The light from the sun, shone down on her and Cyrus saw something else.

Her side profile while a light was shining on her, the surrounding was blurry that he couldn't make out where it was.

But the most absurd thing was the fact that he had a memory of her!!

Of Heather that he couldn't remember at all.

*BANG*

He slammed his hand on the glass, shocking Heather to the core.

"Who are you?!?!" he asked angrily when she looked back at him.

Her face turning paler and paler.
