Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Special Escape

I sat there for as long as I can remember. I didn't have the strength to get up. For some reason, he didn't move either.

It was finally after fifteen minutes; he took a step back and gave me a hand. "Get up."

I wasn't in my complete consciousness anymore. My eyes were dozing off and it was taking all my strength to not close them. I wasn't used to so much pain — at least not physically.

So, I didn't move at all. I heard a sigh before he sat down in front of me and took a look at my face. When his hand touched my skin, I felt my strength going away more. I just wanted to get away from him. I just wanted him to leave me alone.

"Scarlet, I said…"

His words trailed off and I couldn't hear anything anymore. My strength gave in and I fell into a deep sleep.

"I know. You don't need to tell me. What? No. Of course not!"

I opened my eyes slowly to the unfamiliar surroundings. Someone was shouting at a distance and I tried to wiggle my hands out of some restraint that was tying them to the bed I was lying on, but was unsuccessful.

"Ah…" I whispered as the pain hit the left of my face.

I heard footsteps after a few seconds and a tall figure towered by the side of my bed. I looked up and breathed heavily when I saw Xavier standing with a stern look.

"You fainted," he said with a disappointed look.

I scoffed and looked sideways. He came closer and sat on the side of the bed. "Don't do stupid stuff just to make me look like the bad guy."

"Oh, as if you're not?" I turned to him and said with a small chuckle. "I despise you, Xavier. And I will do anything to prove that to anyone."

His forehead was tense for a split second before he nodded with a small smirk. "As you wish, Scarlet."

I scoffed again. "Now, let me go."

"I think you should try your best to escape yourself since… oh yeah. I am the bad guy."

He smirked and I couldn't help but sigh as he walked out of the room. I tried to free myself but clearly, it was of no use.

I tried to study the room to figure out my location. The room was definitely someplace I'd never been before. It was rather elite, with the classic brown and white design. The room seemed to be extremely huge and a few weird paintings added to its beauty.

I knew this wasn't the best place to stay!

After trying umpteen number of times, I gave up. It was impossible to move my hand and it was even more impossible to try to open the rope that tied my hands and legs up.

I decided to sleep, hoping that things would be much better when I woke up.

"Scarlet. Scarlet, get up. Scar!" I heard a few noises and jostled my senses up. My eyes shot open and I saw Maxence standing in front of me.

"Max?" I asked and my eyes widened.

He hurriedly opened my hands and legs without answering me and helped me get up. "What happened to your face!?" He asked with a worried voice.

I shook my head in denial. "Doesn't matter. How are you here?"

"I…" He looked around as if searching for something. "We need to leave, baby. Now."

I looked at him with a little confused voice. He called me baby — something he hasn't done for many years now.

And does he have the right?

"Yeah." It was best to not talk about it at that time. He took my hand and helped me run out of the big room. We entered a corridor that resembled the lifestyle of rich people… and I can't exaggerate enough how much I hate rich people. They are all so self-obsessed and egoistic.

After passing the long passage, we reached a common room and hid before entering it — because Xavier was sitting in the middle. "How do we go?" I whispered to him and he sighed.

"We can't go through the front door."

"Is there a back?"

He looked back and shook his head. "I have an idea."

I raised my eyebrow and he suddenly joined our lips. It was so unexpected. I couldn't kiss him back because I didn't have the time to process it all but his kiss brought back so many memories that I felt lost. His hand went to my hair as he kissed me passionately.

"Uh-uh!" We heard a cough and immediately stepped back. A guard eyed us with a little embarrassment hidden behind his stern glare.

"If you might, please book a room," he suggested coldly.

"Actually, we needed to leave. We… can't wait. I don't think we should go through the common room while… you know. Is there another way?"

The guard sighed. "Actually, we can't give you any other route. Every guest needs to leave via the common passage."

Max took out a few dollars from his wallet and handed them over to the guard. "Think again?"

The guard smirked and nodded. "Please go through the left and then the door out. It is for staff use but will work fine."

He smiled and nodded. "Thanks."

I sighed. Well, whatever works.
