Chapter 18 - New Clothes

"Don't you want me to escort you to the fields? It's quite late." Nick said, whilst watching Olivera pack up some food into a leather bag. Of course, she had eaten dinner with him, but she had insisted on packing away some for her friend.

"No, it's okay. I will be fine." Olivera replied, as she shut the bag and and slung it on her left shoulder. It wasn't that she didn't want the doctor to follow her, but he had done so much for her today that she didn't want to stress him any further by taking him through that long route that led to the prison yard.

Also, she had to stop first at the girls' changing rooms to put off the slaves wear; if the goddess was with her, she would also find water to wash the clothes and bath(for she couldn't comprehend how she could wear a cloth day in and day out without it being washed.). All these she had to do, and she didn't want the doctor waiting and following her all the way. But she knew he would, if she asked.

And again, she wondered why he was so good to her.

It couldn't be for sexual pleasure, because he already a mate. He always talked about her every second(quite an exaggeration, but that's to show the frequency of the issue.)

So, it couldn't be for that.

So, what did he want? Why was he so good to her?

She was sure that she wasn't the first slave girl he had asked and utilised their services.

"I will call in the favour of a friend of mine then. I can't allow you walk alone. You're lower than an omega, and subject to a lot of problems." Nick mentioned.

"A friend?" Olivera queried, not liking the idea at all.

She would rather that Nick follow her then.

"Don't worry. I trust him. No harm will come to you. I promise." Nick stated, having read the worry that had masked her face at the mention of his friend.

"Okay then." She agreed, shrugging her shoulders. She would just have to trust her closest ally here.

"Good, now take a seat. He is on his way. And that reminds me…" He said, touching the base of his neck. "...I got something I think you might need." He added, walking into the hallway, before Olivera could blink.

Ten minutes later,

Olivera's eyes widened a bit as she watched Nick stroll into the sitting room with a bag of clothes. She knew because the bag was overflowing; she could see a top popping out of heap.

"Nick..." She stammered, speechless, even when he dropped the bag in front of her.

"Before you say anything, they are old clothes, that I and Jasmine had worn during our more youthful days. We aren't wearing them anymore." Nick said, a small smile on his face.

"Aren't you going to check it out?" He asked, when he saw that Olivera wasn't even making a move to touch the bag, or even check the clothes. Rather, she sat still, darting shocked glances between him and the back.

He sighed the next minute, as he noted the brimming of tears in her eyes.

Why was she so emotional?

Hasn't she received clothes as gifts before?

"Olivera..." He called, coming to sit by her on the sofa.

"Don't you want them? Are they much?" He questioned, clasping his hands together as he took a seat on the sofa.

"No...no... it's not...that. It's just... it's just that you're too...kind to me...and I don't...know why." She stuttered, letting a lone tear slip from her eyes which were still stuck to the bag of clothes.

"Thank you." She muttered, contemplating whether it would be okay to hug him. She wanted to show her heartfelt appreciation, and she felt that saying just thanks to the doctor was too cliche. But what else could she do?

"It's nothing, Olivera. They are just old clothes." Nick said, patting her gently at the back, when he noticed that the tears were now flowing more freely from her eyes, down her cheeks.

"True, but I don't have them. We are not even allowed the luxury of that as slaves. I'm grateful Nick, so so grateful. Thank you. Thank you so much." She stated, wiping her tears with repeated swipes of her thumb across her cheek, whilst promising him in her mind, to be the best apprentice he ever had, even it meant memorizing the whole herbs and mixtures, and playing doctor when the Alpha comes around.

"You're welcome then. You can give my old clothes to your friend then, and tell him that I said hi." Nick ethused, and she nodded.

"Surely, I will. Jeremy would be so happy about this." She commented, smiling through her tears.

"But Nick…." She called, as if a thought had just dawned on her.

"How would I get all these pass the guards and my taskmasters? Wouldn't they ask questions?" She queried, worry seeping into her voice.

"Don't worry about that. My friend would take care of that. He will personally lead you to your cell. You will be fine. Trust me." Nick said, standing up quickly as a knock was heard on the door.

"I think he is the one knocking now." He said, walking towards the front door.

But alas, when he opened the door, he met the beta of the Pack.

"Evening Roland." He greeted with a smile, shaking hands with the tall and lanky blonde.

"Evening Nick." Roland replied in a gruffy tone which signifed that he was not really in a chirpy mood.

"What happened?" Nick asked his friend who shared the same views with him on the slaves decree.

"What did you do?" Roland asked, furrowing his eyebrows at his friend, as he crossed his arms across his chest.

"Well, it depends. What happened?" Nick queried, repeating his earlier question, even though he already had an idea on what the problem might be.
