Chapter 34 - Good student

"So what do you want to do now? I learnt that you have completed university. What was your major?"

"Business administration. It might sound weird but I don't know. I feel stupid you know? I had begged my dad to let me go to college but honestly I really don't know what I want to do with my life. I have no passion or anything.

I have always envied those kids who are so sure of what they want to become and work hard towards it."

Beatrix sighed before she continued, "maybe at the back of my mind I knew I was never going to have a normal life. So I haven't really sat down to think of it. Maybe I will just be a pretty housewife."

She said with a sagged shoulders.

"No." Damien leaned forward his face serious.

"In my territory there is nothing like a pretty housewife. All the women are advices to set up something for themselves.

Being a complete housewife with no financial backing of your own makes you vulnerable. You can be a housewife wife provided you have a business set up for you under your name and the funds are generated into your account."

Beatrix stared at him, complete shock on her face. She had added the last part because most of her father's men had housewives.

They spoiled them and do everything for them except letting them work. Something about a woman's job is to take care of the house and children.

"Why did you set up that rule?"

She watched as a glint passed through his eyes but it disappeared quickly.

"Nothing. I don't want anyone vulnerable in my camp. If your man abuses you, you are supposed to leave immediately.

I don't want to hear any bullshit of I don't want to leave because of my kids and I don't have any money."

Beatrix nodded,"Oh I see. So in the future if you abuse me I can also freely walk away?"

"I'm not going to lay a finger on you." he cut in icily as if she had deeply offended him.

"But abuse comes in many form, Damien. You don't have to lay a finger on someone to emotionally abuse them. Physical pain is less painful than emotional pain."

She watched as he pondered over her words, "Hmm okay then you can leave. I won't stop you."

Damien watched her for a long moment, his amber eyes enigmatic as he took a long, slow sip of his own coffee.

"So..is there anything you want to do or learn? It could get lonely here. I want us to get to know each other first before I take you home."

Beatrix absently stirred the surface of her coffee with the tip of her forefinger before sucking it into her mouth with a small, wet pop.

"Cooking."

Damien looked at her, his brows scrunched together.

"Cooking?"

Beatrix bursted out laughing at his incredulous look.

"Yes! I have always wanted to learn how to cook but my brothers and father are too overprotective; they wouldn't allow me anywhere near fire."

Beatrix pouted. Talking about them, she had to call them but she left her phone at home when they were coming.

"Maybe you should listen to them. Fire can be a dangerous master."

"But you just said I can do whatever I want. I want to learn how to cook so that I can spoil my kids with food one day!"

"I will cook for us." Damien retorted.

Beatrix opened her mouth but it remained soundless.

"Please…" she managed out.

Damien sighed, "Alright. I will teach you myself."

Beatrix's eyes widened in shock.

"Wha-what?!"

He cocked his head towards her and grinned.

"What what?" He teased her.

"I believe I'm a good cook and a good teacher too, Miss Quinn. I just hope you're a good student." He whispered the last sentence as his eyes narrowed slightly.

Beatrix scrunched up her nose in thought, her cheeks warming slightly. For some reason his last sentence sounded more like a challenge.

"Of course I'm a good student. I wasn't on top of my class for nothing."

Damien nodded,"Then I will teach you on one conditions."

Beatrix arched her brows, "What condition?"

She asked despite the unsettling feeling in her stomach.

Damien took a sip of his coffee and he grinned menacingly.

"You give me absolute control….." he trailed off. A smirk forming on his lips.

"in the kitchen." He added.

As naive as she was, Beatrix shrugged and nodded.

"Alright."
