Chapter 23 - Mall

The horn blew once again breaking me out of my thoughts, my eyes snapped to the blue jeep before me.

"Hey," Owen said, opening the door from inside.

"Right" I muttered getting in.

"You okay?" he asked, worried about my glamor.

"I-I'm fine" I forced a smile.

"If you're not up for it Emma, tell me", his eyes softened and I found myself unable to look away, his brown eyes had little qualities of red making them a slight maroon color, I only noticed that now and it was beautiful. I quickly looked away.

"I'm up for it," I said, licking my lips.

"If the city girl says so" he started up the car. A smile crossed my lips.

~

We drove out to the city which was quite surprising to me, I thought we were going to a mall here but it didn't seem like it, according to Owen it was the city mall that was best.

"Thank god you came, Emma, shopping with boys is the worst," Sarah said, grasping me in her arms the moment she saw me.

"We only just came here for a new camera which we need," Miles said with an eye roll, his shoulder-length hair was packed behind in a ponytail.

"Yeah and this mall is super expensive but it's the only place we could get a good one" Henry intoned.

"I told them to just order it," Sarah said.

"Yeah we don't have that much, we contributed the exact amount for JUST a camera" Owen reasons.

"You should have told me you guys contributed and I would help," I said feeling left out. Owen gave me one of those signature smiles of his.

"Don't worry Emma we got it covered"

"Totally not, he warned us not to ask you", Owen instantly elbowed Henry. "Ow!" he shot him a look.

I blinked. "Why? I could have helped"

"Well, Owen here said not too" Miles winked at me and I blinked puzzled.

"Come on guys," Owen said rubbing his forehead, I was about to speak.

"Boys go get the cam, Emma and I have some shopping to do," Sarah said, pulling me along.

"What was that about?" I asked. Sarah's smile broadens.

"Owen told us not to ask you saying you just moved and probably had much on your mind so he paid double"

"Oh", that was quite considerate of him but still it bugged me.

"Yeah"

"That's…" I licked my lips.

"I think he likes you"

"What? Owen? N-No I'm sure it's nothing like that, we're just friends"

"Hmm" she shrugged. "What's there not to like about Owen? He got the looks, his family is quite loaded, you know the Sherman's"

"The Sherman's"

"Yeah, they own most of the libraries around here, they are almost quite famous for their interest in books, it goes way back,"

"Books," I muttered.

"Yeah, books"

A realization struck me, that's it! I tried searching for answers on the internet but I couldn't find any, so a book about this town's history might help me. I don't know what exactly I was looking for but I felt I might find it in one of those.

"Fuck! All this stall screams expensive" Sarah cursed.

"What are you looking for exactly? We can just go another place"

"No! This is the best and their makeups are better than the other stalls" Sarah said, dragging me to one of them.

"Wait, you brought me here for makeup?"

"Yes, you should get some too, they got awesome products"

"Um"

She halts facing me, giving me a look. "Wait don't tell me you don't wear makeup"

I bit my lip. She skimmed my look from the top down and I blushed.

"That explains it" she murmured but I heard her. "And here I thought you would give me advice for some colors"

"Sorry," I said gulping.

"No worries you can just… I don't know"

"Yeah sure, take your time I will just eye the colors" I forced a smile, and she just stroke a nod going to check out some make-ups on display, I could finally breathe, this wasn't exactly my jam, I felt so left out staring at what girls love to apply on their faces and I just stood there like an alien, maybe I should have just followed the boys to go get the cam than be here.

"What is all this?" I murmured under my breath eyeing the thin black tube like I was staring at an alien spacecraft, I noticed my mom applied something like this but I never knew what it was called.

"They are called eye shadows"

I jumped facing who had the voice, it was no other than Emilia, she was suddenly before me, where did she come from? Once again she was stunning. Even the Stall wasn't enough for her presence, she was outstanding. She was on a black net long sleeve blouse tucked in her mini jean skirt. She must be a fan of net leggings because she was wearing one right now, as well as knee length boots. Her jean jacket with several designs attached to it was hanging on her arm.

I noticed the hat she wore as she pushed the designer's shades she wore at the bridge of her nose, making me see her beautiful dark hazel eyes.

"You know that right?" she pushed the shades to cover her eyes back.

I blinked, snapping out of my gawking. "S-Sure"

"You're lying"

"Excuse me?" I spoke trying to sound offended but she was right I did lie, I mean a girl was supposed to know what an eye shadow was right? But I did not.

She reached for one of them and I noticed the price tag attached to it, my eyes almost widened out of my socket, that was super expensive, Sarah must have saved up for how long to get god knows what?

"You were gawking at it like an alien" Emilia intoned, chewing on her gum, my eyes darted to the tube swirling around her fingers, and I noticed her black painted nails.

"Whatcha doing here if this isn't your jam?"

"Window shopping" I said, trying to sound convincing.

She huffed, hand on her waist and her head tilting to the side. "Almost had me there"
