Just as Matthew had predicted, it snowed more heavily that night. Even though there was no blizzard, the temperature outside was dropping so fast that it could freeze water in seconds.
Ruby sat in front of her bedroom window. Her eyes followed the movement of the snowflakes that fell on the ground and made the snow piles on the streets grow even higher.
The oil lamp beside her began to dim, making the room darken.
"Ruby, why are you sitting in there? You'll get cold if you sit in front of the window."
Ruby turned her head as soon as she heard Matthew's voice. A broad smile was immediately printed on her face when she saw her husband returning to the Baron's Manor after helping the soldiers put thick clothes on the patients' tents.
Matthew hung up his coat and wiped his hair which was covered with white snow. The surface of his skin looked a little pale from being hit by the cold temperature for a long time.
