Matthew knelt next to Ruby, his gaze locked on Marlene, who was still shaking with fear. The demon fox tried to avert her gaze from the people before her, but Ruby gripped her hand more firmly every time Marlene looked away.
Ruby wanted Marlene to trust her and Matthew, so she tried to make sure Marlene kept looking at their faces to get her attention.
"Marlene, this is Matthew." Ruby pointed her finger toward him. "Do you remember who he is?"
When Marlene took a longer look at Matthew's face, her memory returned to the auction house. She could vividly remember being locked up in the iron bars and treated abominably. They only fed her once a day, and the food they gave was more like pig feed than human food.
Not only that, she still could feel the dirty hands of the rotten men who brazenly touched her every day.
She pleaded over and over again to released her, but those rotten men didn't even care.
