Chapter 1 - Chapter 1_Had a normal life

Okay, so I am Medusa, a redhead 5 foot 5 inches tall. That is about the average height for a young adult woman.

Yeah, everything about me is average, you will get to find that out soon.

I have moonlight-shaped eyes with unique silver-colored eyeballs. Sometimes, people would stare on and on at my eyeballs when they saw me. It's okay anyway I like the admiration stares, it kinda boosts my confidence. Don't be surprised I am a super duper outgoing person who likes to talk a lot...

My face is a fine structured rectangular oval face which my red hair often falls on frequently.

Enough talks about my hair let's go to my legs. Oh, those are my babies!

My legs are the most favorite part of my body. Those long beauties are what keep the boys staring.

My Mama mustn't hear me speak about boys, she is totally against young ladies who speak of boys casually.

Her mentality still lives in the 90s, if only there was someone who would preach the gospel of evolution to her and she happens to listen, I'd give them a cheesecake! it's my favorite.

Have I mentioned no matter how hard I tried, I always come home with average grades? Those grades just won't shoot up no matter how much effort I instill and Mama wouldn't understand. She wants a perfect daughter with perfect manners.

Right now I'm laying in bed ransacking the internet for the latest gists on my phone. "Medusa!" I heard Mama's voice shout.

"Urghh!" I grumbled " Old killjoy!" I muttered frustratingly before dropping my phone on the bed and going down the stairs to join her in the sitting room.

"Medusa!" She called again.

"Yes mama, I heard you. Coming down now." I didn't hide the frustration I felt. She needed to know she should reduce the numerous errands she sends me every day!

"What is that tone I heard in your voice young lady?" She asked sternly.

I didn't want another argument with her right now so... "Nothing mama," I said as I was already down the stairs.

She was standing in the kitchen area which was situated in the sitting room with a see-through glass demarcating it from the sitting room.

"Good, it is time for dinner. Make sure to sleep early you will be attending school tomorrow. And, do take it easy with your cellphone young lady." She instructed.

"Ok mama," I said maliciously because I knew I was going to sneak out tonight. There was a night beach party Iris had told us about in the group chat, it was not to be missed.

"Go help your sister out in setting the table." She instructed me once again.

I went to the dining area where Anastasia was already arranging the dishes.

"Hey, sis." she acknowledged my presence. She always did that even if we saw each other not long and maybe I left to get something, whenever I came back, she would greet me again.

The perfect daughter Mama wanted, Anastasia was that daughter. Her etiquette was top-notch. I love my baby sis though. I probably loved her more than I loved myself.

"What's up Anas?" I returned her greeting.

I liked to call her Anas for shorts. It was a pet name mother found uncomfortable.

We had our dinner in silence like always, mama would never tolerate talks during a meal.

It is not what a well-trained young lady would do; she claims.

When we finished our meals, I and Anastasia cleared the table and I rushed through the stairs to go back to the group chat with the girls when I heard Mama's voice.

Oh no, she was starting the late-night sermons again.

"Medusa, remember early to bed is early to rise. A proper and well-mannered lady should..."

"Be wary of what she looks up on the internet, who she speaks to on the internet, and the time she spends on her phone." I cut her off and finished for her.

Those were words I heard every night and had successfully memorized that even if I was woken up from sleep to recite them, I would recite them fluently without mincing words.

Mama shook her head approvingly "Goodnight love." she sent me off sweetly.

"Goodnight Mama, night Anas," I said to Mama and Anastasia.

Their rooms were downstairs and opposite each other. I intentionally chose the attic as my room to avoid disturbance from mama and privacy for myself.

Mama hated to climb stairs.

As soon as I got upstairs, I rushed to pick up the phone that I had dropped on the bed.

I went to look up the updates in the group chat.

"Yo girls, you've all gotten 40 freaking minutes more to get prepared!" Iris texted.

I instantly did some calculations in my head, about 20 minutes later mama should be sound asleep, if I sneak out and grab a cab, I should be at the party before 40 minutes, I smiled warmly.

As young adults and girls still learning about life, we were enjoying our lives to the fullest and thought life was all about enjoying our youth while we could.

We didn't know there was more to life than the ordinary. I never knew this day would be the beginning of the end for me.
