A pitcher sat at the edge of the sink; Rose picked it up and brought it with her to the tub. She surveyed Chris as he leaned his head back and shut his eyes. She knew he was tired and could use some rest.
"I'm going to pour the warm water over the fabric. It should loosen the blood enough so we can remove it without tearing the skin." Rose described how she planned to get him free from the tunic.
He watched her scoop water from the tub into the pitcher. She was kneeling behind him, and he could feel the warm water flow from the spout over his shirt, saturating the material she repeated for several minutes.
Each time, she would check to see if the cloth was coming away from Chris's skin. Her touch was light and easy. She took great care not to tug or pull roughly.
