Lucy blushed crimson red and turned her face away so he could not see her embarrassed expression.
"Don't look away. I love your pretty eyes when they gaze into mine."
Bryson placed his hand under her chin and tilted the young maid's head to face him.
"I will ask Lord Thorn if I may come and take you to London for dinner," he said.
"It is not The Lord you have to ask. It will be my uncle Duncan." She frowned, saying the words.
"He will make that call. I doubt he will allow me to accompany you to dinner, especially without a chaperone."
"Trust me, Lucy, I'll take care of it. I will converse with your uncle and make a satisfactory arrangement with him. But only if that is agreeable with you."
Lucy nodded at Sir Bryson. "I would like that."
"I would too. Thank you for your kindness this evening and for listening to my story. I do feel better about getting it off my chest."
