A palpable tension could be felt coming from Rose's body as she sat in his arms. Chris was aware that she was nervously awaiting his answer about whether Magnus was still alive. He glance down at her, unsure how to convince her that the man was dead.
The truth would give her peace; he was certain she needed to hear it. It was apparent from her expression as Chris nodded and sighed that she understood.
He placed his hand over his heart and quickly lowered it. He tried to hide his pity for Rose.
"I'm sorry I did not find you sooner, and Magnus hurt you. But that vile creature is no longer alive. He has no power to inflict harm on you, Rose. My actions ensured that tonight."
Christopher was careful when cupping her bruised face in his hands. His lips left a delicate kiss on her forehead.
