When Kane entered the study, he was greeted by a chaotic jumble of books and papers. He had hastily left from the office to search for Christopher and Rose, after Raphael's news of her recent incident near the secluded cabin. He had not had the chance to straighten it up.
And now that he had returned, Kane could see everything was still as he had left it. He stared about his office and realized he needed to clean it. Giselle was right, there was no room for anyone to sit.
He peered out of the study, and the smell of old books and ancient manuscripts wafted around him. Dr. Clayton and Giselle waited expectantly for him to open the door, the sound of their shuffling feet echoing in the hallway.
He glanced down the other side of the hall and found a young page walking along the corridor.
"Hey you, boy, come over here!" His booming voice echoed through the hall as he shouted at the young man.
