"Kane, what did my father say to you?"
Kane paused. He was finding it difficult to phrase what he had to say to Giselle.
"He said that you would—"
His hands balled into tight fists, and the excruciating look on Kane's face told Giselle something extremely bad had happened when he had gone to Dragonwood. There was not much that scared her husband, but whatever this was, it had him frightened out of his mind so much so he could not even express to her what it was.
Giselle leaned over and hugged her husband's trembling frame. "It's okay, whatever it is, Kane, we will face it down together."
Kane turned and desperately clutched Giselle to his chest, squeezing her so tight it was almost too difficult for her to breathe. He exhaled into the silky black hair on top of her head. "I can't even bear to hear the words rattling in my head, much less repeat them to you."
