It was well past sunset when Christopher finished his work. He had not planned on business taking this long. He felt bad leaving Rose by herself all day the way he did, especially after the morning they shared.
It was hard for him to leave her. He would have spent the entire day wrapped around her in the bath if he had not needed to attend to his neglected work duties.
He pushed himself up from the desk chair and picked up his gold fountain pen, placing it in his breast pocket. He gathered all the documents and set all the finished work in the outbox for Duncan to take to the post in the morning. Then he headed for the dining salon of the Stafford House.
The aroma of food led his nose down the hall. Whatever the cook had prepared made his mouth water, and he was eager to see Rose and share dinner with her after being locked in his office all day.
