The dining room was now empty as Christopher and Rose faced each other. Her head was bowed down, staring at her shoes. In her current condition, she could not stay still, and her body swayed. He worried she might fall.
Chris waited on her to speak and explain what was going through her drunken mind.
As Rose went to open her mouth, she hiccuped.
"Hic!"
Christopher could not help himself and roared with laughter. He made light of the situation as he was trying to defuse her earlier anger with him.
"I must say, it is very impressive that you polished off four bottles of wine on your own. How is your head feeling?"
Rose brought her gaze to meet his, and he noticed she was docile once more. The fight was gone, and she had a bright blush about her cheeks. Her eyes quickly shifted from side to side, and he could see she was no longer in any condition to argue.
