Rose and Christopher returned to Stafford House in the wee hours of the night. The dimly lit grand entry was silent except for the sound of their footsteps clicking on the marble floors. Rose, feeling unwell from her excessive drinking earlier from last evening, dragged her feet and leaned heavily on Christopher's arm for support as they ascended the imperial staircase.
As they reached their room, Rose let out a deep sigh of relief and collapsed onto the plush bed. The soft, cool sheets felt like a soothing balm against her hot skin. The room was quiet except for the faint hum of the electric lights, which provided a soft glow about the space.
