"It's actually straightforward. Friendship. I want to be your friend, Rose." Kane placed his hand on her. He knelt next to her bed and spoke gently.
"I have seen the life you led through your eyes and in your dreams. All I can say is I'm sorry for what you have endured. I will be your confidante and protector from this time on." Kane vowed to Rose, and he saw her bottom lip tremble and her throat bob, trying to hold back tears.
"That is the most considerate gesture I have ever received," said Rose, and she turned her head away, embarrassed by her reaction to his show of kindness.
"I also know your aunt Giselle is concerned for you too. She may not show it and can be ill-tempered and wishy-washy, but you are her relative, and she cares for you," explained Kane.
"You are more than a friend. You realize you are now my uncle?"
"I never even thought about it, but you are right. We have become kin." The idea of family excited Lord Alexsander.
