This condensed light energy burned his skin as soon as he touched it and so he was truly trapped in this cage... At least for the moment, because Lilith hadn't shown herself yet, but once she did, this condensed light energy wouldn't be able to keep her prisoner.
Freya then thanked Alec and she told him, "Really very impressive, you're much stronger than you look."
