"Yes..." Everly nodded.
"I see…" Nix gave the phone back to her, honestly unsure of what to say.
He pinched his brows and parted his lips to speak, but Everly abruptly stood up and bowed her head, her hands nervously gripping the hem of her coat.
"I know that what I did was terrible, and I never should have kept it from Valerio, but I was... afraid. I wanted to tell him, and I tried, but I couldn't find the courage to do so."
"I wanted to finish everything up and leave that life behind and not ever have to talk about it again, but everything just went wrong."
She explained, hoping that he would understand, and Nix, who was staring at her, stood up from the sofa.
