Chereads / A Vampire’s Caregiver / Chapter 8 - A Caregiver, You Say?

Chapter 8 - A Caregiver, You Say?

A blonde-haired middle-aged man turned his head when the door to his library was pushed open.

"Logan." He spoke, and the person, Logan, who had walked in, bowed deeply in respect.

"Evening, Father." He greeted.

The middle-aged man who goes by the name of Lucius Le Mort acknowledged his presence.

He was the ruler of his kind, which were the vampires, and Logan and Valerio were his only sons, including his young daughter, Leia.

Logan was the eldest son, while Valerio had come second, but for some reason, Valerio was always superior to Logan.

"What brings you here?" Lucius questioned.

"I have news for you," Logan replied, and he gestured to the chair.

"Have a seat."

Logan took his seat and crossed his legs.

"So what is this news that you have for me?" Lucius inquired.

"Well, I just found out that Valerio hired a caregiver recently." He replied, and Lucius immediately dropped the book he was reading to look at him.

"A caregiver, you say?" He asked.

"Yes. A human caregiver," Logan responded.

"I see. That's very weird. I believe Valerio doesn't need a caregiver. Even though he is blind, he can do pretty much anything on his own, without assistance. So why a caregiver?"

He pondered, and Logan, who had no idea, shook his head.

"I know he is definitely planning something, but don't worry, father, I have it all under control. Soon, we will get what we want. Just a little bit more. For now, I think, the caregiver might just be a way."

He smiled evilly, and Lucius slowly nodded his head in acknowledgment.

"Well, I will leave it to you. If you succeed, I might deem you worthy to be my successor; if not, I guess, I will have to give it to Valerio, even though I don't want to. But then I will have no choice but to do so, so try not to lose against him, understand?"

He warned.

Logan nodded his head and stood up from the chair.

He walked out of the library, but before he could proceed away, he suddenly halted, feeling that someone was nearby.

He can't tell who it was, but he knew that someone was eavesdropping.

A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes, and knowing that now was not the time to worry about such petty things, he strolled away.

Once he was out of sight, none other than Leia stepped out from behind the pillar, her heart rising and falling in fear.

"Valerio…."

She immediately turned around and rushed back to her room.

She stepped inside and shut the door, then quickly grabbed her phone.

She dialed Valerio's number, but unfortunately, he wasn't reachable.

Could he have gone to sleep?

She mulled but shook her head, unwilling to give up just like that.

Valerio was the only person she had left in the world, and she wouldn't let anything happen to him.

Lucius le Mort had married two wives. The first gave birth to Logan, and the second gave birth to Valerio and her.

Lucius didn't have that much love for the second wife as he had married her through a bargain, so even when she was on the brink of death, Lucius saw that as an opportunity to get rid of her.

However, how unfortunate it was that after the second wife died, his first wife followed.

He has only ever cared about Logan since then. It was as though Valerio and Leia didn't even exist to him.

For that reason, he was unwilling to take Valerio as his successor, even though he knew that Logan could never be better than Valerio.

He was willing to convince himself over and over again that Logan could be better, even if it meant going to great lengths.

Leia bit her bottom lip nervously, and having no other choice, she hurried out of her room.

She proceeded downstairs, but before she could leave the huge house, she bumped into Logan, who has yet to leave.

"Where are you going?" Logan immediately inquired.

A glint of disgust flashed in Leia's eyes and she gave him a stern look.

"None of your business." She scoffed and moved to walk past him, but Logan gripped her harshly by the arm and gaped at her with deadly eyes.

"Be safe. After all, it's nighttime." He smirked dangerously, and a hateful smile formed on Leia's lips.

"You forget that dawn is our favorite time of the day, brother." She shook her head and snatched her arm from him.

She hurried out of the mansion with her hands stuffed into the pockets of her sweater and quickly flagged down a cab.

She gave directions, and in less than five hours, the cab arrived in front of the Avalanzo mansion.

She stepped down from the cab and paid the driver.

The driver drove off, and with a soft breath exiting her nose, she hurried into the compound the moment the bodyguards pulled the gate open for her.

She strolled into the mansion and looked around for Valerio, only to realize that he wasn't at home.

She nervously fiddled with her fingers, and the moment she sighted Everly, who was coming down from the stairs, she rushed up to her.

"Have you seen my brother?" She inquired, and Everly shook her head at her.

"Uh... he has been out since morning. He left for his company." She replied, and Leia pinched her brows in deep stress.

"Do you happen to know when-"

Her sentence had yet to be finished when Valerio's footstep flew into her ears.

"Big brother!" She quickly turned around and rushed towards Valerio, who was walking into the mansion.

She hugged him deeply as though he would leave or something, and confused by such a warm hug, Valerio patted her on the head.

"Is everything okay, Leia?" He asked with a bit of concern, and Leia raised her head to look at him.

"Come with me, brother; I have something to talk to you about. It's urgent." She spoke to him in an apprehensive voice, and Valerio, who rarely sees his little sister in such a state, followed after her.
