Chereads / When Sky Falls In Love / Chapter 5 - Under The Moonlight

Chapter 5 - Under The Moonlight

Selena's POV

"The rain had stopped a while ago, and night is so beautiful. I went to the roof deck a while ago, and I was mesmerized by the night sky filled with a thousand stars while the moon was shining so bright; maybe we can spend time over there after dinner," Stanley said, and Sky looked at me that made my knees felt weak.

"I love that," Skyler responded without taking his eyes away from me.

"How about you, Selena? Do you want to come with us?" He asked, and I slowly nodded my head.

"That is settled then," Stan responded, and when I looked at him, he winked at me.

"I don't think it will rain again; how about we will catch some fireflies?" Sky suggested, and Stan's face lit up.

"That would be a good idea," my best friend responded while my heart was beating fast.

"That is one of Selena's favorites," Stan added.

"Yeah, I couldn't wait to chase them; it has been a long time," I replied, and I could no longer hide my excitement.

The food was delicious, and I felt so full after our dinner I returned to my room to change into my leggings and loose t-shirt since there would be insects in the woods at night, and I didn't want to suffer from insect bites.

I couldn't believe I would be putting on some baby cologne, and I was looking at the reflection of my face in the mirror for a long time after I put on some lip gloss.

I knew I was doing it for Skyler; I had never been conscious of how I smelled and looked when I was with Stanley. I can be me, and I hate that I felt this way toward his brother, knowing I was out of Skyler's league.

"Where is Stanley?" I asked Sky when I found him at the bottom of the stairs, and I needed to swallow my saliva and grip the handrail of the stairs for support when he smiled at me, showing his perfect white teeth.

I never expected one day I would be the receiving end of his beautiful smile that would always make all the girls on campus go crazy.

He was wearing a black sweatshirt and sweatpants, and I was looking at him with wide eyes, and I knew I needed to stop, or else he would know I was one of those girls.

"Unfortunately, my brother had a stomachache, and I don't want to waste the beautiful night," he said, and I didn't know he could be a simple guy and not the popular guy on campus.

"I hope you are still game, and you will spend the night with me even without Stanley," he softly added as I slowly took the remaining steps of the stairs.

He patiently waited for me while I could feel my heart racing, and my pulse quickened when he came near me.

Skyler was towering over me; his mesmerizing hazel-green eyes were staring at me like I was a beautiful creature. I always loved watching his toned body from afar, and his eyes and jet-black hair gave him a mysterious yet handsome look.

Skyler is hot and gorgeous, and I knew he would always be the superstar in our school. He had been popular in the academy even before he started playing basketball because of his good looks and family name.

They belong to the elite society, and I knew they would always be on the top, and if my dad was not on their household staff, I knew I would never have had a chance to know both of them personally since a girl like me should never associate with them.

Having a wealthy best friend allowed me to enjoy some privileges only rich people could afford, and I would always be thankful to Stan, and I was worried that he would hate me once he found out I lied to him.

"Are you coming with me?" Sky asked when I didn't answer him.

"Who doesn't want to see the fireflies? I couldn't resist them," I answered and shyly smiled at him.

His wide grin made me breathless, and I couldn't believe I would have a date with Skyler; I knew it wasn't a date, but I could tell this was part of Stanley's scheme.

I could breathe in his masculine scent mixed with his cologne, and I always loved how Skyler smelled; I had been dreaming of this moment.

I wished to thank Stanley for giving me this chance, and I couldn't stop feeling sad as I remembered the bet I had with him.

I would do anything to have this moment again with Sky. I only had this chance tonight and I should grab it since he will never give me a little of his time when we are in their mansion in Santa Clara's capital, especially on campus.

"Are you ready, Selene?" He asked, and I frowned at him.

"It's Selena," I replied, and he chuckled as we made our way to the back door. I could feel the cold evening breeze tickling my skin; I suddenly regretted why I didn't wear my sweatshirt.

I could feel the blush on my face when Sky offered me his hand as we went out, and I was hesitant to take his palm, but I didn't want him to think I was trying to be hard to get.

He always saw me linking my arms with his brother; maybe tonight, he was trying to take Stan's place, and he was trying to be a gentleman.

"Are you not afraid to come with me?" Sky asked as he let go of my hand and walked ahead of me, and I followed behind him with a long stride since he was walking so fast and he got long legs that I found it hard to catch up with him if I had my usual steps.

As we moved to the inner part of the plantation, the coconut leaves hid the brightness of the moon, which made the entire surrounding turn dark, and I suddenly felt nervous about some nocturnal animals that might be lurking around the area.

I screamed when Sky suddenly stopped walking, and I hit his muscular frame. I was glad he was strong and fast that he held me by the waist in an instant to steady me on the ground, which was a wrong move yet felt so right.

I was catching my breath not because I was afraid of the dark but because of Skyler's proximity. I could feel his breath on my head as he held me.

It was dark, but I was sure my face turned bright red because of my excitement, and I was having so much fun even if I knew the time I had had with Skyler was only temporary.

I knew I was with Skyler because of Stanley's plans, and I wanted to forget my stupid bet with my best friend and enjoy every second I spent with his brother, my only sky.

"Do you have a flashlight?" I asked, trying to keep my voice neutral since I didn't want him to know my heart was having a tidal wave of emotions.

"Yeah, and I was trying to make this thing works," he responded after he let go of my waist.

I didn't want the flashlight to work since I loved the feeling of being with Sky in the darkness. I could tell he kept closer to me because he was afraid that something might attack us.

I hid my face when the flashlight illuminated since I didn't want him to know I was blushing.

Skyler took my hand, and we started walking again, and I held my mouth from screaming when he suddenly switched off the flashlight, and I wondered what was wrong.

When I looked around us, my eyes watered as I realized a thousand fireflies surrounded us, and they looked like Christmas lights in Christmas. I was in awe, and I couldn't believe I would be watching a beautiful phenomenon right before my eyes with the man I had been crushing on since I was in grade school.

"Wow, they looked beautiful!" He exclaimed as he tightened his grip on my hand.

"Yeah, I always love them," I mumbled in more than a whisper since I was afraid they would fly away from us.

We stood in the middle of the plantation, under the coconut trees watching the fireflies while holding hands, and it felt like I was dreaming. We stood there for a long time until I could feel my neck hurt.

"We could stay here forever, but I don't want to miss the view at the open fields where Stan and I used to play soccer with the children of the farmhands when we were younger," he said, and I could feel he was sad, and the intonation of his voice made me think he misses his younger brother.

We continued to walk, and this time, he was taking his pace slower as he aimed the flashlight at the ground. I could feel the grass tickling my feet since I was only wearing slippers, and I was smiling like a mad woman when he took my hand.

It would be a long walk, but I didn't mind as long as I was with Skyler.

We walked in silence until we reached our destination, and even if my feet hurt, I didn't care at all, and my eyes turned so big as we stopped in our tracks and beheld the view before us.

The stars are shining like city lights above us, and the moon's brightness gives us enough light to see the field around us.

It felt like we were sitting at the center of a soccer or football field, but the only difference, we were alone out of nowhere. And it felt amazing to be with him, and no prying eyes would be staring at us.

"Wow! Nothing changed in this place, and I could say I didn't have regrets about visiting here for the last time," he declared, and I was curious about what he said.

"It felt like you were saying goodbye to this beautiful place, this is part of your farm, and it belonged to your family, and you can come here whenever you want," I replied, and he let out a heavy sigh.

"I don't want to disappoint my dad, he wished me to be happy and achieve my greatest dream, but as his eldest son, I felt guilty." He said, motioning me to sit beside him on the grass.

I slowly got down and settled myself beside him, and I was surprised when he scooted closer to me; I could feel the butterflies swarming on my belly as I could feel the thrill of being near him. I smiled as I realized he was talking about his deepest thoughts, and it dawned on me; Skyler was beginning to trust me.
