Elsa's mind went blank. She felt as if a ton of bricks had hit her head. She had never anticipated this conversation when she entered the study. And above all, she couldn't think about any man but Samuel.
"What? Why? No, I don't know him," Elsa blurted, visibly agitated.
"That's why he wants to talk—to get to know you," Jasper explained. "I think you should call him and get acquainted."
"No, I don't want to," Elsa rejected firmly. "I have no interest in him. I don't need to know him. Zac Hayes… He can have any woman he wants. Why is he pursuing me? In this life, we never spoke. I hadn't seen him in decades. How did he suddenly develop feelings for me?"
"You may not have met him, but he knows about you very well," Jasper explained. "He saw you quite a few times while traveling on business trips. He has been following you for a while. And when he met with me, he expressed his feelings to me."
