Chapter 5 - Saving the dragon from himself

Tiamat grabbed Fiona without thinking, a reflex reaction to her parting statement. He didn't answer her, but Tiamat's frown made her fully aware that he didn't like her question.

His hand brushed against her breast and Fiona felt a mixture of embarrassment and shame.

Even though instinctively she knew the touch was unintentional, she still wanted to put some distance between them but that was impossible locked within his hold.

Her dress was thin and soaking wet, she was cold from the rain and her hardened nipples poked out through the thin material despite the bra she wore.

In contrast to the dark knight who was dressed completely in stark black with no embellishments.

His shirt, trousers, tunic, and boots, everything was the color of charcoal from head to toe.

He didn't respond to her remark as he pulled Fiona closer, only arched his eyebrow at the callousness in her tone which surprised Tiamat.

"What is your name?" he asked.

"I am Fiona," she wasn't sure why she felt compelled to give him her real name.

He watched her while she spoke, latching on to every word as if he was fascinated by everything she said.

Fiona prided herself on being calm, cool and intelligent but she had never given much credence to dragons until she came face to face with a living breathing legend.

She had so many questions she wanted to ask but no words escaped her lips.

Today after being saved, she had been willing to believe in such legends as there happened to be one facing her right now.

That moment his stomach growled and just as long as she wasn't on the menu. Fiona supposed that even legends had to eat.

It was that practical thought that gave her courage because if he wanted to, he could have killed her already.

Everything about her intrigued him, most women he grew up with would have been traumatized.

They would have been clinging to him right now for comfort but not her, she was as cool as a cucumber.

Tiamat forced her chin up so that she met his gaze, his eyes were violet and the look he gave at her response would make hell freeze over.

She had just saved his life, and this was the treatment Fiona got, fury flashed in her eyes. For the dragon was proving to be ungrateful as he was obstinate.

His face seemed weary, and battle heartened like completely devoid of emotion with that grim expression that he consistently wore.

Fiona stared into his eyes and thought they were as dark and mysterious as the rock on her finger. His hair was an unusual pale gray, overly long and slightly curly but soft to touch.

He had no laugh lines around his mouth, in fact his mouth looked thin and gloomy.

Like he seldom found any reason to smile, as his piercing cold eyes never wavered from her face. She thought with a shiver of apprehension.

Her eyes were a dark blue and turbulent like the icy cold waters he delved into to save her earlier.

Fiona's wavy black hair was in disarray and tangled past her shoulders but still managed to look alluring with her medium height and slender frame.

The intensity of his gaze made her blush as it seemed he was also scrutinizing her features.

She needed to remember that he was a dragon first and a warrior second.

Why had her words aggravated him?

He reminded himself that even though she was a tantalizing beauty, her previous attempts at caring for him were probably just a ruse.

She was a stranger from a distant land, probably sent to infiltrate his camp and steal his secrets.

Poorly trained since she was doing a terrible job of seducing him.

As he had experienced far better from better looking women with extraordinary skills in the bedroom.

Even though Tiamat would never agree with what she just said he acknowledged that his course of action would not be altered, he was taking her with him.

Especially since he was curious about her strange dress habits, curious behavior and act of courage.

"This behavior of yours is exactly why I stand by my words. Why do you want to stay here and confront those men when it's obvious you were seriously wounded?"

Still no response from the brooding warrior but Fiona was too wound up to care. "Listen dragon, now is not the time to be suicidal. Please let us flee from here together."

Tiamat searched in the nearby bushes and found his black sword belt.

He still wasn't paying her any mind in fact he seemed to be searching for something and a look of frustration crossed his face that he hadn't found it yet.

Finally, he moved away from her, taking his body heat with him and she felt a tinge of regret as she had already grown used to the warmth.

She heard the howl of what sounded like a wolf nearby and with her untrained self. No way was she killing a beast like that with a tiny dagger the dragon said she could take.

Realizing that he was already heading towards the directions of the cave and slowly leaving her behind.

Fiona hastened her footsteps to catch up to him, yanking on his tunic, letting him know she was still there and waiting for a response for all her unanswered questions.

She could see that they were nearing the caves, but some shrubs and brush blocked their path. Once they made their way through the vegetation.

Hungry. Cold. Miserable in the downpour of the unrelenting rain.

Is there any way she could save her dragon from himself?

While she was pondering that thought she walked absentmindedly straight into the back of the dragon shifter who had come to a complete stop for some unknown reason.

The brush from the overgrowth scratched her skin so to get away she pushed past her rescuer to see what had him stomped.

Over a hundred soldiers spilled out from the caves, some were positioned above the cave and held on tightly despite the rain and fierce wind, every one of them was wearing purple and black colors.
