David ignored Ash completely as my Knight strode for the door, walking straight to my side and pulling up the chair Ash had been in when I woke.
As the door closed with a sharp thud, I could breathe again.
David threw a dark glance toward the now-closed door, but then lowered himself into the chair and immediately reached for my hand, pulling it up to his mouth so he could kiss my knuckles.
"How are you?" he asked quietly, scanning me like he'd find a hidden wound.
"I'm fine! A little tired. But when I don't move it doesn't hurt at all. And I can move without losing my breath now."
"Good, that's good." But he sounded like he wasn't really thinking about his words. Like his mind was somewhere else entirely.
