My eyes ached like they might fall out of my head. I was so weary I could have laid down on the dining table and slept, even with the audience. And yet, there was a jittery energy bubbling in my veins.

But behind us, the guards and spies were taking action. Emory's insight into the various players from her Kingdom that were in attendance, combined with God's grace that a guard had noticed the man walking the halls in the small hours—and accosted him when he tried to flee—meant that we had leads.

I was still waiting for word on the many rulers and dignitaries—whose appropriate response to the alarm was to barricade themselves into their suites—to make certain no one else had fallen to these schemes tonight.
