Half an hour later, having followed a secret tunnel from the stables, out beyond the walls of the Estate, and emerging in a thicket of trees quarter of a mile beyond it, Stark and I paused to get our bearings.
"We'll meet with the guards in five minutes that way," Stark grunted, nodding to the east.
I watched him for a second before turning to look the way he'd indicated. He hadn't spoken for the entire ride out of the estate, except to give me hushed directions, and he kept looking over his shoulder, back in the direction from which we'd come.
Was he aware of a plot he hadn't told me about?
