I stood in the middle of the sitting room, just shaking and sick. I would not vomit, I told myself. I wouldn't. I couldn't.
My heart beat so hard and fast that my head was throbbing, my scalp pulsing. I couldn't think straight, but I had to. I had to get out of here. I had to get out of this castle. I had to get out of this fucking world!
"Zara?" Ash's voice startled me. It was muffled on the other side of the doors. He must have tried to come in and realized I'd locked it. "Zara, please. Let me… let me say goodbye or… something?"
Then everything that was twisted up inside me turned to stone and dropped with a thunk to the bottom of my stomach.
