"Ash, how do they know you're here?" I was done. I was done with the mysteries and the vague sense of threat, and the hushed conversations.
These people knew where I lived.
They knew my secret dreams.
And apparently, they knew that Ash was with me.
When I said his name in that tone, he raised his hands to soothe me. He'd closed the door on the bedroom, which at first felt completely normal—something he'd been doing for months. But no… we were here in this world. I wasn't a Select here. I was a woman in her own apartment, and he'd just showed up and—
"Do you remember the day we met?" he asked quietly—so quietly, as if he was trying to stop someone from hearing. But he hurried up until he stood right in front of me. I folded my arms.
"Yeah. I'd just woken up in Arinel and Abigail was fussing and I was confused and you came in and almost caught me naked and… yeah. I remember. I thought it was a dream."
