My soul was grieved by what I feared was to come. At what point would I be forced to no longer follow, but to stand and fight?
Could I actually let him marry Lizbeth? My entire body recoiled from the very idea. Not because I thought the woman evil, but because I feared what it meant for David that he was willing to tie himself to her. And what it would do to him in the future.
For the first time ever, I worried that my conscience was at odds with my King. And that... that would lead nowhere good for either of us. Or for the people.
Something else niggled at the back of my mind, something closer to home, but I couldn't identify it. My instincts were alarmed, for more reason that David's wellbeing and its impacts. But why?
