"Zara," David sighed. "This is Erik. My brother."
He raised one hand in greeting, smiling awkwardly. "Hello, Zara. It's nice to finally meet you."
I just kept staring at him, searching his face for something to reassure me that I wasn't seeing double.
"Zara," David said quietly, "I'm sorry, but Erik has an urgent request and I think… I think you're the best one to make the decision because I don't trust myself."
Erik glanced at David, then back to me, then cleared his throat. "I know this is a shock, but David said he'd told you about me and… and I need to ask you for something."
"Me? What could possibly—"
"Emory," Erik said, and all sheepish uncertainty fell from his features. Suddenly I was facing my husband when he was determined. Resolved.
"I'm sorry… but… what?!"
