I must have fallen asleep when Ash was visiting, because the last thing I remembered was my Knight Defender staring at me with an intensity that made me feel desperately sad for him.
I hadn't known what to say, and so we sat there together, nearly silent. He kept telling me to rest, and even though I thought I couldn't, the next thing I knew, I woke at a touch and when I inhaled, my heart sang and sucked me out of sleep.
When I opened my eyes, it was white hair on the head bent over my hand.
I reached for him with my free hand, unable to resist burying my fingers in that thick, silver-white mop of hair on top of his head.
"You're here," I murmured, my voice thin and weak from sleep.
