Chapter 6 - Scarlet

"What?" Theresa's voice reverberated in Aurora's ears as she drew closer to them on the bed. Theresa's anger was obvious as she thought of Damien, who seemed determined to cause her distress. Despite all her attempts to conceive an heir, they had all been futile.

She couldn't help but to believe the rumors of Damien's alleged impotence, and her anxiety grew.

Interrupting her thoughts, Aurora glanced at Theresa, who demanded an explanation for the mark on Aurora's neck. Although Theresa attempted to maintain a calm facade, her expression betrayed her true emotions.

Damien's refusal to comply with her wishes was driving her to the brink of insanity. How difficult could it be for him to mate with a woman? She was merely trying to secure his position as an Alpha, yet all he cared about was his work.

Aurora hesitated, contemplating whether to reveal the truth or play along. However, given the circumstances, Theresa would stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect her own dignity. It was best to come clean and put an end to their doubts

"He used it to deceive you into thinking we had something," Aurora confessed, wrapping the blanket around her body to conceal the mark.

"Why didn't he touch you?" Theresa's question irritated Aurora. How was she supposed to know why the Alpha had chosen not to engage with her? Shouldn't Theresa consult him before making decisions on his behalf? What was the point if he had no interest in it?

"He is not interested in mating with any woman. Give up now and spare yourself the stress," Aurora retorted without holding back her words.

"In that case, you will be confined to the omega's quarters. Let's see who should be spared from stress," Theresa responded coldly, her voice dripping with icy determination.

Without looking back, she exited the room, followed by the maids and the midwife, leaving Aurora finally alone.

Sighing heavily, Aurora gathered her clothes and prepared to dress so she could find some strength in sleep without worry. However, her plans were interrupted when she remembered whose room she was in. She sighed again, packing her clothes before leaving the room.

As she navigated the mansion's corridors, she silently prayed for a maid to guide her to where she belonged, hoping that Theresa wouldn't change her mind and cast her out. Luckily, just as she was about to search for assistance, a maid approached her.

"Aurora, right?" The maid inquired, and Aurora nodded in confirmation.

"Follow me," the maid smiled faintly, gesturing for Aurora to come along, and she complied immediately.

"Where will I be staying?" Aurora asked as she trailed behind the maid, who seemed to be wandering aimlessly.

"Our Alpha is lenient. Some of the omegas reside in the lower section of the mansion," the maid explained. Aurora nodded, understanding the situation, and silently thanked the Alpha.

While omegas were treated well in Lucas's pack, they were typically not permitted to reside in the same mansion as the Alpha. Lucas's mother had enforced cruel rules that even a Luna couldn't converse with an omega. What a cruel woman she was, Aurora thought.

However, considering she had been brought in as a slave, how had she been granted the privilege of staying in the mansion alongside some of the omegas?

"Fortunately, you were brought in as the Alpha's breeder, so Theresa doesn't want people to look down on the Alpha for mating with a slave. That is why you are here," the maid explained suddenly, shedding light on the situation.

"But I didn't mate with the Alpha!" Aurora blurted out, immediately covering her mouth as she realized what she had just revealed.

The maid halted in her tracks, faced Aurora with her gaze fixed on the mark on her neck, prompting Aurora to sigh. "Oh," she murmured, already understanding what the maid meant.

Rumors must have spread about the mark, and everyone must have believed that the Alpha had been involved with her. However, now that they had confirmed she hadn't mated with the Alpha, shouldn't the rumors lose their significance?

"What matters is that Theresa didn't kick you out. You are not the first breeder, and you won't be the last. Theresa won't give up until she gets what she wants," the maid added before resuming her duties.

Defeated, Aurora nodded and continued to follow the maid in silence. Theresa was undoubtedly an unstable woman, exerting tremendous effort to compel the Alpha to sleep with a woman.

Given that it was the same Alpha, her plans would inevitably continue to fail. But Aurora didn't care, all that mattered was finding a way to seek revenge and escape this pack.

"Here we are," they finally arrived at their destination. Aurora opened the door and entered the room assigned to her. Strangely, it seemed as though someone else had been living there, as a familiar scent filled the air. Wait, a familiar scent?

"We will be staying here together," the maid confirmed, dispelling any doubts Aurora had. She recognized the scent, it belonged to the maid.

"I am Scarlet, and I will help you become acquainted with the mansion," the maid continued, entering the room.

"I might need some clothes…" Aurora began, but Scarlet interrupted her, revealing, "You will be working as a maid, just like me. We have uniforms, so you won't need personal clothes."

Aurora nodded, understanding the arrangement, and explored the room to familiarize herself with her surroundings.

"You were told not to work today, so you can have the day off. We will work together tomorrow," Scarlet stated, not waiting for a response before leaving the room.

Aurora sighed and approached the window in the room. The view outside was refreshing. This would be her home until she found a way out, and the thought brought both relief and anxiety.

For now, she would earn a decent wage and maintain good relations with others in the mansion until she devised a plan. Lucas and his mother would pay for what they had done to her when the time came.
